Biography
Onis Zany | Scattered | Genius | xxx |
|
Onis is a kooky one to say the very least. As the guild's resident Arcane mage and right hand, as well as the current longest seated clansmember next to Diablo and Whirpool, he is greatly respected by the majority of other clanmates with the exception of Veyerta, who formed a bitter rivalry upon their first meeting. As probably the most stereotypical representation of a Spiral, Onis is incredibly hyperactive and can always be seen milling around the lair muttering (quite loudly) about his latest findings regarding his spellcaster work or gabbing to his beloved Starbear, Nonny, nonstop before slumping over knocked out cold from lack of sleep (his version of power naps). In fact this is because he’s so easily distracted that it helps to talk to himself repeatedly in order to sediment it into his memory for later conferences. Some of his habits are described as most peculiar, including regularly trying to squeeze himself into the tightest of spaces, often having to be rescued before being suffocated, and sitting atop his larger clansmates' heads, gnawing on their horns, hair, or feathers (the most notable victim being Diablo). It can be seen as a nervous tic similar to biting one's nails due to trying to find an answer to certain perplexing questions. His loves would be: riddles, glittering silks, and the occasional unknown potentially deadly potion… for experimental purposes of course ~ Song: Ena by Hinkik |
Onis was found by Diablo as a young hatchling being sold by a clan as a "Spectral Genius of the Stars" after venturing to the Crystalspine Reaches in search for the first non-direct child of one of The Eleven. He found the youth curious with his bright, ethereal large eyes that he expected to shimmer regardless of the time of day and light up the night in the darkest of hours. When inquiring about him, Diablo learned from the hawkers that the child contained a destructive spell, burdened upon him after journeying to The Observatory. It was later found that this ‘power’ was imbued in an accident as the result of approaching The Arcanist during one of his many incantations he made in his corporal form. Furthermore, he was the perpetrator of one of the largest dragon-made disasters to the Arcane territory, creating a deep crater where a vast city once was. The buildings and those living in them taken just as quickly as the spell’s manifestation. Not even the surrounding forests survived with their natural barriers from the land’s energy. How they got ahold of him was never a question. Only that it was known that this information was meant only for those who expressed such particular interest in the spiral. It was a curious situation indeed, and only more dangerous the more Diablo and Whirlpool knew. But this didn’t matter of course. Not only did this child meet with one of The Eleven, but with it he was given a great curse. This was who he had been searching for. Who he had been drawn to. After taking off with the child, Diablo and Whirlpool further learned of his strange seemingly limitless knowledge of the elemental particles that supplied the respective lands of Sornieth with its mystical energies that made the territories what they were, the connections between them and what made the Deities what they are. It was as if he was channeling the Arcanist from within. Internalizing the ghostly wyrm’s own hypotheses and possibilities gradually along with his own. Though he was physically safe as far as his outside surroundings, Diablo would often find the hatchling away to himself and sometimes in tears. Horrific memories of the past and countless potential futures caused him anguish that he would someday unleash that power once more, with no explanation nor reason, and create another disaster worthy of being written in the historical tomes for years to come. It was one of these days of worry, three weeks after their first encounter in the backdoor market stall, that Diablo sat by his new companion at his most vulnerable, ~ "What is your name?" "I have none sir." "Well that won't do." Diablo smiled as he said this. It was not a smile of knowing, nor of sorrow or disappointment by the tone of his voice. It was not empty either. It was just a smile. "I don't need a name. No one wants to call me anything but a murderer anyway." The elder hitched his breath at this, reminding himself that the child has lived through more than most others and thus has matured more than most others, though not necessarily in the right way. "I don't see it that way." It was heartbreaking really. Seeing how emotional he was in his words yet his face was as still and expression as vacant as a statue. "My existence made people suffer. I don't want anyone else to suffer because of me." The smile returned despite the half choked pain behind the youth’s words. "Hmm… Let me tell you a story.” It was an odd response. “A long long time ago there was a garden in the sky. It was a beautiful place where beings of different walks of life lived peacefully, and it was considered a secret haven for centuries, far from the knowledge of any malevolent people below. However, attached to that garden was something evil. It caused greed and had the possibility to make that very haven a weapon itself. Capable of mass destruction. Now its original purpose wasn't for that. It wasn’t for that at all. Quite the opposite really. The people who made it didn't know that their knowledge could turn into weapons of war. Because of this, the people of the garden created a spell in case such a terrible person threatened their home with their own creation. It was a spell of self destruction. Although it was cruel, it was their last stance against others who would choose to use their technology for harm. And eventually the time did come to use it." "What happened to the garden?" "Well it was destroyed of course!" The youth frowned and curled himself into a tight ball. Diablo continued just as before. "The underside where all the advanced technology was stored, exploded in a fiery inferno," Diablo giggled as if he was telling an anecdote to his colleague. The hatchling only looked at him in both a disturbed and curious manner as the laughter slowly left, his face returning to a calm serene expression, "However...although the garden was singed and the majority of the life was wiped out, years later, a miracle had occurred. Only not really. You see, it came back to life. Through perseverance its flowers bloomed once more and bright green grass carpeted its land. Destruction brought new life. But that’s the thing young one… destruction will always bring forth new life, no matter what form, where it takes place. A different life from what you used to know yes, but that’s the beauty of it." A few seconds had passed in silence when Diablo noticed his companion had slowly come out of his knitted ball of frustrations to shyly peer up at the elder in an expression he thought he would forget how to make, "Do you know what has become of your destruction?" "No...sir" "A field of Daffodils and Bloody Snapdragons. Butterflies and Quail. Honeybees and Rabbits. They're all there. Covering your legacy. They thrived because of the new soil you turned up, the creatures that decayed and nourished the ground." |

. . .
"I'll ask you again what is your name?"
"I...I have none."
The lumbering guardian chuckled, admittedly he thought it would be to himself but his glee couldn't be contained,
"Well, that won't do."
Diablo rose to his feet and began walking away, leaving the hatchling confused but… not upset. No that feeling had left him entirely. And then he heard the words.
"Onis. That is the spell of destruction. And of life. And that shall be your name. Remember it well."
