"Hey, HEY! If I see you do something underhanded like that again,
you are OUTTA here, YOU HEAR ME?? Now, resume your sparring.

Dragonet years
One of Calypso's first dragonets, he was raised alongside his brother Kreech and adoptive sister, Murcie. He had a free, yet difficult childhood, as this was the time when Calypso and Sails had first established their clan, and were constantly on the run from angered nobles and enemy clans.
During this time, however, he grew strong. Much stronger than the average nursery-raised Guardian, and even more so than his siblings. He felt as though he had to be, he wasn't as adept at magic as his brother, nor as sharp and firey as his sister, but he was stubborn. He would wake up every morning, at the crack of dawn to train and hone his combat skills.
He was relatively aimless as a youth, and had no real affiliation with anything. He would forget places as soon as they left, and, as he would stand with his mother at the prow of their rickety ship, he would be left nonplussed by the way she gazed out to sea, and the dragons they helped, with such love and compassion. He wouldn't understand, and when he brought up this concern with Calypso, she would shake her head and say, in her knowing way, that he would truly understand in due time.
And time was due indeed. Eventually he was old enough to go on The Search. He left, exploring to the southeast, the Windswept Plateau. After drifting around aimlessly, yet happily, for a few weeks, he encountered a trader's caravan. The leader was a Guardian himself, and he understood the importance of The Search, and offered to keep company with him, exchanging food and a place to sleep with temporary protection. Pulpo agreed.
This trip would eventually take him through The Scarred Wasteland and even up to Dragonhome, where he ultimately found his mate- and realized his purpose. This trip would not be made without some strife and dismay, but he emerged a stronger dragon for it.

Job Description
Now, admittedly, their militia may be nothing impressive at the moment, but nevertheless, Pulpo is proud to be the right-hand man to Calypso in matters of battle and combat and Guard Captain of the Blue Vigil.
His duty as Calypso's right-hand man is to advise her on strategies and plans for whatever combat situation they find themselves in, which is for the best, as his more level-headedness keeps his mother's more wily, passionate tactics in check. He actually considers this his most important duty, even if his primary position and calling- due to his choice of stewardship- is to be captain of the guard. he believes that a formidable militia and cunning tactics are the first line of defense against any kind of adversary.
As captain of the guard, his job is to manage the guards and scouts of the flotilla: He assigns perimeter watches, assigns scouts to survey the general directions that Calypso wishes to drive them, and he is also the head of law enforcement; he assigns detectives to solve problems and assigns guards to cases and local support, if need be. He is also in charge of training new recruits- be they new law enforcement or new military applicants. He doesn't go easy on them- he believes that, to protect the family, they must be at peak performance, and if they fall beneath what he deems appropriate, he denies them entry. However, he isn't without mercy, and is a fantasic instructor, often sitting with disheartened applicants and giving them pep talks, and spending more time with them and their training.

Bio
Pulpo returned from The Search a changed dragon. It was just as his mother said; he truly understood now how she felt for the sea and all that reside in it, but he felt this instead for his crewmembers and family, but especially so for his new mate, Crag.
Since that day, he vowed to always protect the dragons he loved, even at the cost of life and limb, as he realized on that trip that they really were the only things in the entire world that gave him purpose, that constantly surprised him and taught him new things, and that always had his back.
Now, while he claims The Blue Vigil as his charge, his true charge is Crag. The two of them spend every free moment together, and his mate is his sole confidante; the only dragon he truly trusts with every thought and deed that resides in his heart. In return, Pulpo will always protect Crag above all else, even at the cost of his crew and family, no matter how much he truly cares for and loves them. Thankfully, his crewmembers are understanding of this, either for their innate understanding of Guardian tendencies, or their own self-preservational tendencies.
He refuses to speak about what happened on that fateful trip, but from whatever little he or Crag have mentioned, it was pretty awful; Pulpo even has the scars to show for it.
When it comes to battle and public policy, his personal motto is "honesty is the best best policy." Even if he's fighting his worst enemy, or there's a life or death situation, he refuses to stoop to underhanded, unnatural means to win, as he believes that it's a greater dishonor to attain victory shadily, as opposed to winning a battle on even terms. As for public policy, he will always be transparent with his charges and guards, thinking that, even in the face of horrific news, truth is simultaneously the best weapon and armor, as the recipients will be ready to face anything that comes their way.
He's also a very effective peacekeeper, as he believes infighting and high tensions are the root of treachery, so whenever a fight breaks out onboard, or his guards come back with news or grievances of other dragons, he goes personally to talk things out between the parties until they come to a solution.

Hobbies
He actually does enjoy training, actually getting up at the crack of dawn to face off against stone dummies and straw dragons, or to strain his already powerful muscles lifting thousand pound weights and swimming laps in the water around the arena. He also holds casual combat sessions for fun in said arena, where he and a couple of friends get together and wrestle or box, oftentimes being watched and bet on by bystanders.
Also, for being such a frank and straightlaced guy, he's very fond of listening and telling stories around the evening fire, as they remind him of his rough, albeit fun and liberating childhood. Oftentimes, much to his later chagrin, his stories get more outlandish the more he drinks, to the point where he once tried to pass off a story of wrestling a hundred-foot long sea serpent- and winning.

Physical Description
He stands a head and neck above other male guardians. He has very large, rippling muscles, and his skin is covered in scars, old and new, gouges and slashes. Some of his fins, and one of his wings are peppered with small tears and punctures, but these don't seem to impede his movement, and he moves around just fine. His beard is a bit patchy from how many times he'd been caught in the jaw while fighting, but he still manages it, trying his best not to let it knot. He wears his set of fine iron filigree armor, which has saved him in many battles, and is covered in dents and scratches, but is still polished and mended in areas where the scarlet cloth tears. He has a very stoic, rugged face, and could even be described as "Scary."
