Some Dreams Are Meant For Shelves And Some Are Meant For Shadows

To the disappointment of absolutely everyone, Chanticleer had no particular gift for showmanship. He was too unengaging for the stage, too dull for dance, simply too lackluster to hold anyone's attention for very long, and so, after a spell, he quietly withdrew his dreams of lights and stages, to focus on his real talents. Chanticleer is a careful individual, not quite hesitant, but calmly waiting for the right moment. All too often it seems to pass him by. He talks little, and what little he does say is generally soft-spoken, measured, and so guilelessly polite that no one who could think of him for more than a few moments could possibly say he was a bad sort. Innately trustworthy, perhaps, but too unremarkable for any real suspicion to stick to him. It has been mentioned, once or twice though, that when left to his own devices, Chanticleer can sometimes be found quietly singing to himself under his breath, or practicing the steps to some not-quite forgotten dance. The skill is there- but something about it remains entirely uninteresting. In an ironic twist, all these qualities that make him thoroughly unsuited to be the star attraction, make him completely suited to be Dai's assistant. A magician needs a quick thinking, well versed in stage arts, second hand to help with the bigger tricks. One who can grab attention for but a few moments and easily fade into the background, forgotten, to carry out the the hidden twists of their magic shows. At first Chanticleer wasn't quite sold on the offer. But after watching a few of Dai's smaller shows and Dai refusing to leave him alone. He agreed to give it a try. After some false starts and a lot of practice sessions, the two have solid teamwork and have created some excellent show routines. Probably no one was as surprised as Chanticleer to realize how well suited he was to being the magician's assistant. It might not have been the dream he originally wanted, but it's the role that he's found he's most happy in. |
