Dusk -- the Healer "..." ○ positive | driven | courageous ○ • aloof | irritable | critical • ☀♈ [Medic] [Lawful Good]☾♒ |

Dusk never thought she was anything special. After all, what is so special about a dragon with only one gene? Not even her tert was visible, she had never known what it was anyways. As if she wanted to know. It was all pointless, she wasn't worth spending thousands of treasure on in the first place. There was no way she wasn't going to be exalted at some point in time, to which deity she always wondered. The day her mother took her to the auction house, she told her something she would never forget.
"You were created to do great things. No matter what that might be, if its serving under a flight god, then so be it. Just do what you can in the most passionate way possible. Love what you do, no matter what it is." Dusk was furious with her mother. How could she? Her words meant nothing. The second she was picked up from the auction house by anyone if ever was surely going to be exalted immediately. She knew how these things worked.
As time passed, a guardian couple approached her with light in their eyes.
"Aren't you just the most beautiful dragon!" Spoke the female. Dusk was confused. Were they saying these things to her out of pity?
"You've got to come home with us! We want you as part of our clan," The blue male spoke. Oh boy. Now she knew what this was all about. Some lovey couple that found each other that just started their own clan want to take her home. They didn't understand how worthless she was. They would in time.
"Hey, wake up, sleepy head! We're going for an early hunt," Dusk blinked open her eyes and stretched her wings, looking up at the blue coatl female standing above her.
"Huh...why?" She asked, yawning.
"Today's the big day! Opal and Marine's eggs are hatching today, so we are going to need more food than usual," The coatl female spoke, plumage shimmering in the morning light. "but be quiet! We aren't going to wake up Opal, it's going to be a surprise for her. Just me, you, and Marine. Got it?"
"Yeah, yeah. I get it, Aja." Dusk spoke while rising to her feet. "Let's get this over with, I'm predicting a long nap sometime today." Aja laughed and nudged her, walking towards the exit of the small lair.
Time had passed since Dusk was welcomed into the tiny clan of four. The clan rested in the Crystalspine Reaches of the Starfall Isles, and boy, was it cozy. Dusk didn't complain though, she had all she needed. A couple of friends and a place to sleep, everything was going better than expected. Upon arriving to her new home, she met Aja, the blue coatl, who was thrilled to meet her. She appeared a bit older than Dusk, but not by too much. This must have been her first clan as well. The days consisted of mostly the same things, waking up in the morning, gathering all sorts of items and the occasional trip to the auction house for random things. The guardian couple, Opal and Marine, had just recently laid their first nest of two eggs and were going wild trying to gather resources and make things fit for a couple of hatchlings in the small lair. Dusk couldn't have asked for a better start to her new life. If a couple of completely basic guardians can live happily and go about their lives as they wish, then she sure as hell could.
The two female guardian hatchlings looked up at Dusk with glittering eyes, asking her all sorts of questions.
"Why are your eyes green?" Squeaked the youngest, her pink eyes contrasting the platinum shade of her scales. She sparkled like a gem, just like her mother.
"Because, I was born in the Nature Flight, which is very far away from here." Dusk spoke to the pair of sisters.
"How come you have spots all over you?" Questioned the eldest. She was a bright mulberry color, and spoke louder than her sister.
"Because, some dragons look different than others! There's lots of different looking dragons out there that I'm sure you'll get to see someday." Dusk responded, giggling.
"Girls, it's time to eat!" The rose colored mother called out to the three. The two sisters scampered over to their mother. "Okay, Mom!" Dusk called sarcastically, standing up.
"Haha, very funny!" Opal replied. Dusk made her way over to the area of the lair where they usually dined, only to notice the absence of Aja.
"Hey, Marine, where's Aja?" Dusk asked the ocean colored male.
"Oh, she went out to gather some things, or something like that" He replied.
"What?! You let her leave by herself at this time of night?" Dusk interrogated, lashing her tail. "You know, it's like, dark out, right? And we really aren't that strong at all?"
"Well... yeah, but I mean she couldn't have gone too far, right? I'm sure she'll be back sometime-" Marine was cut off by an unfamiliar voice.
"Looking for someone?" It called maliciously. Dusk turned towards the lair entrance to see several red eyed mirrors, one grasping Aja by the throat with his talons.
"Aja! Oh my god," Dusk spoke, taking a step towards them. The blue coatl looked worn, blood seeping out of several wounds on her body.
Marine dove in front of Dusk, teeth bared. "Let go of her!" He growled.
"Oh, of course," said the mirror clutching Aja. "Actually, we'd like to make an exchange. The coatl for both of those hatchlings, also all of your treasure."
"What the hell? Are you crazy?" Dusk called. "Who are you? How did you find us?"
"Oh, it was easy, really" said the mirror, pretentiously looking at his claws. "We've been watching you for quite awhile, remember that one hunt the three of you took right beside the border of the Arcane and Plague territories? Well, we happen to live there...and you intruded our land, so all we ask is for a little something in return. We sort of happen to make a living off of raiding small and pathetic clans like yours, so we'd appreciate your cooperation to make this as painless as possible."
Marine was furious. Opal desperately tried to comfort the wailing hatchlings while he spoke to them.
"You're not taking my hatchlings, or my money, or my friend. I will tear all of you apart!" He roared, pouncing on the mirror male.
"Marine! Don't-" Dusk called, but it was too late. The mirror male had dropped Aja's broken body to the ground and took on Marine head first. The group of mirrors dove onto Marine, biting and clawing him to the ground with razor sharp teeth and claws.
"NO!!" Opal yelled, running over to battle.
"Take the hatchlings and run, Opal! Get out of here!" Marine called, spitting up blood as another set of jaws latched on to his throat.
Opal continued to protest and wail. Aja stood up shakily and flared her brow plumage, tearing a mirror off of Marine. Dusk tried to help to little avail, her smaller size being a big disadvantage to her. Opal stormed through, ripping mirrors off of her bleeding lover. Marine stood up slowly as another mirror attempted to pin him down.
"Where are the hatchlings!?" He called. Dusk looked over to find one of the small females baring her fangs at a mirror while it held her younger sister in its jaws. Dusk dove after the mirror, who ran out of the lair holding the small guardian with a few others.
"Marine, Opal, we have to go!" Dusk called to the two, still fighting off a couple mirrors.
"No," Marine wheezed. "My daughter... You all go, Opal, take our other child. I have to save our daughter"
Opal wailed but obeyed his command, swooping up the smaller guardian female and flew into the night followed by a weak Aja and Dusk.
"We're leaving"
The rose colored guardian and her daughter sat by the entrance of their make-shift den.
"W-What?" Dusk asked, her voice quivering. The last several days had been the worst of their lives. After Marine's death, a missing daughter, and a destroyed lair, the four females had been living together deeper inside of Arcane territory. It was safer there, sort of.
"I can't live like this anymore," Opal replied, her voice sounding hoarse. "My mate is dead as well as my other daughter most likely. I'm going to serve under the Arcanist, and Amethyst is coming with me."
"Why are you making Amethyst go? She's just a kid, she could stay with us and help rebuild the clan-"
"She's traumatized!" Opal spat at Dusk. Dusk had never heard Opal speak like this before and felt herself tearing up. "We'll be safe there." Opal spoke again in a softer tone. "You two should come with us,"
Dusk stood back abruptly. "No.... no, I'm not going. I won't go." She protested firmly. Opal looked confused. "Why? We'll all be safe and together, we'll get to meet new dragons and help the Arcanist-"
"I'm not going." Dusk responded bleakly. Opal looked at Aja.
"You know I can't just leave this kid out here on her own," Aja said, forcing a laugh then sighing.
"Very well," Opal removed her apparel including some things from the steam punk collection and a white ribbon. "Go sell these to get yourselves started again. Get more dragons to join you. Please, stay safe." Opal looked at the two with sad eyes, then to Amethyst.
"Goodbye, Aja and Dusk. Good luck." She said, taking off into the sky with her daughter.
Dusk collapsed to her heels and began to sob. Aja looked down at the ground and put a wing around Dusk.
"It'll be okay... we have each other. We'll be alright," Aja spoke softly. Dusk wasn't sure how well Aja really believed in that, but accepted her condolences.
