Everbloom revenant

In the twilight of his years, the hard, cruel warrior Nivur fell in a ferocious dominance battle between Ice and Nature. And yet somehow, mysteriously, he awakened....

The light was what he registered first, what roused him, a shimmering golden haze that reached down to where he drifted in darkness, its beams diffused by a wavering surface somewhere far above him. Dazed, he kicked his feet, stroked with his wings—rose up through what he gradually realized was water until his head broke through into air and dazzling brilliance. Gasping for breath, he half-splashed, half-paddled toward an expanse of green—land, he thought, words coming to him slowly, as if out of a dense, confusing mist. Sun. Breeze. He crawled up onto the ground at last and then lay on his belly, wings outstretched to either side as he soaked in the lovely warmth that poured down upon him, and all the other sensations, too: the clean, fresh-smelling softness of the grass beneath him, the tumbling liquid notes of bird song, the perfumes of an unfathomable number of flowers. He dozed, and when he woke after a little while with his mind clear and remarkably spacious-feeling, it was as if he’d never known anything else but this. Somewhere at the far back of his memory, there was an impression of harshness, unending cold, and cruelty, but it was impossible to grasp, like the faded wisp of a mostly forgotten dream. Rising, he stretched long, enjoying the fluid ease of his body, noting in passing the flowers, moss, and lily pads that covered him, somehow one with his skin. In the distance, he heard the calls and laughter of hatchlings, and he perked up, listening intently. Something like the sun kindled inside his chest, warm and all-encompassing—love, he named it, joy—and after one more stretch he trotted off through the garden toward the sounds of childish play.

Facts
– Hatchlings love to play on and around him; he doesn’t actually roughhouse himself, but he’s as content to let them climb and pounce all over him as he is to have them curl up against his side and go to sleep.
– He has an oddly soothing presence, and various dragons have felt their spirits lifting and their ills healing when they spend time with him.
– Nobody has ever seen the flowers on him fade and die, yet somehow they’re constantly being replenished and replaced with new ones in an ever-changing display.
