Story by Steffon
Cor is born a fighter. Nimble, agile and abnormally quick, she is quick to strike and even quicker to defend. The clan whispers that she may be well on her way to compete in the esteemed Arena, or to brave the depths of Kelp Beds. She often hears their hushed words, of course, and she couldn't help but feel pride.Art by Cewientje, Yonderthought, and GosutoGhost Birthday Dragon Why? You'd think that for them to explore the Falls, they'd be careful. The team hung their heads in shame. Her reputation was put to test, however, when her trio with Cornelia and Cornucopia once lost in Bamboo Falls. The Hainu's ambush shook them, and they barely made it to the end of the fight. Each blamed no one but themselves for letting their guard drop so low, caution abandoned as they explored and gawked in awe at the serenity of the Falls. The clan was silent for weeks on end. The Skydancer mostly remained to herself, refusing the company offered by her team. Few saw of Cor, but many heard of her. One would notice the rustle of leaves and the strike of claw against vine and wood deep within the roots of the Behemoth, and in night, someone would groan with pain and exhaustion in the lair as the others slept. And until she could prove herself quicker and stronger than before, Cor would train. |

Lore There is a reason why even the bravest dragons are given pause when approaching the haunted outskirts of the Hewn City. Upon the city lays a curse, which some believe the Shade itself put there. Every now and then, this curse claims an egg (or even a whole nest, if the parents are particularly unlucky or haven't warded their nest well enough) and devours it until the Light goes out of it, leaving it dark, and often dead. Sometimes, though, the hatchling inside survives, but this might be an even crueler fate than death for them. Because if their mind is still there (which is not certain; sometimes, the hatchlings are nothing but empty husks possessed by the Shade who will turn upon their siblings and nestmates and wound, kill and devour them if given the chance and their eggs weren't removed from the Nesting Grounds in time), they will face a life-long battle against the emptiness within them. It is not all bad, however. If they survive to adulthood, they may learn how to use and manipulate the Void within them so that they can turn it on the Shade's own creatures and curses, or lay it as a blanket over their Clan. This friendly void will cause the Shade to turn elsewhere, as it believes it already has the area under control. This fact leads to that adult Shadeborn are in high demand among the less superstitious Clans, who do not mind the fact that they can manipulate the Void. Habits Even Shadeborn who end up accepted by a Clan prefer to keep to themselves as much as possible, often wrapping themselves up in layers of clothes and armour to act as a barrier between them and the world. This is not because they are loners or unappreciative of company, as many may think (they are, in fact, usually exceedingly grateful for any and all company that they might get), but rather because their curse gets harder and harder to control the more life and magic there is around them. They would consider it to be poor thanks to the Clan or dragon that took them in if they went berserk and forced them into a situation of “kill or be killed”. As such, they embrace solitude despite their yearning for companionship. Lifespan A Shadeborn will never die of old age as long as there is even the tiniest spark of magic around for their curse to feed on. Despite this, there are very few ancient Shadeborn wandering around. The reasons for this are twofold. 1. Feral Shadeborn are hunted down and killed as quickly as possible, and 2. As the host dragon of the curse grows older and stronger, and so does the curse. No matter how good control a Shadeborn has, there will come a point where the strain grows too big for them and they, recognizing what is happening, will separate themselves from all other dragons and commit suicide to prevent the Shade from turning them into Its puppets. |

Exalting Cor to the service of the Lightweaver will remove them from your lair forever. They will leave behind a small sum of riches that they have accumulated. This action is irreversible.
