Statice is the clan librarian, a job that he feels suits him very well. Sure, the clan library had to be renovated to accommodate his large size, and he has trouble handling some of the manuscripts written in Fae, but he does his best all the same. Few things make him happier than rediscovering some magical secret buried deep within an Arcane manuscript, or some metallurgical recipe hidden within a Fire book on blacksmithing. It makes him just as happy to obtain a new batch of books, whether from trading with another clan or raiding a ruin. His prodigious memory allows him to know the exact location of each book in his library, and has also allowed him to remember who did not return their books at the end of their loan.

While he does work with books, and adore them dearly, when asked what is most important to him in his life, his response would always be “Orchid.” The female Skydancer, his longtime mate and the clan’s botanist, is the reason he goes out of his way to secure Nature tomes whenever he can, his thirst for knowledge enhanced by his desire to help his mate. To that end, he has dutifully copied every single page of every Nature book into a single large tome, which he keeps under lock and key in his cave chamber, just in case any of their rare and valuable books go missing.

His cave chamber, which he shares with Orchid, is in his mind a wonderful amalgamation of theory and practice; on the walls, rare herbs and flowers are juxtaposed with ancient books with comprehensive instructions on how to raise and propagate them. Orchid, for her part, is always happy to have the help, but it means so much more coming from her beloved. When the day’s duty is done at the library, if he is not completely exhausted, he will go and ensure that Orchid has all the assistance she needs to finish her duties for the day.

Statice rarely sees Orchid in the library; her duties are simply too much for her to take time off very often. But when she is there, she brings him bouquets of flowers, the most beautiful and pleasantly fragrant that she could take. He puts them in well-supported scroll cases; he believes that it is thematic to the library, as in his mind it is symbolic of beautiful things growing out of knowledge.
