Orchid is a dragon with a simultaneously very simple and very complex duty: maintain the clan’s growing plants, and make sure that they are kept healthy. Since she has to care for everything from watermelons to medicinal herbs, it definitely keeps her busy. She is usually working the entire time she is awake, except for when her mate, Statice, has time to help her. When working together, they are an incredibly efficient team, as Statice’s excellent memory allows him to know exactly what must be done for each plant without referring to any list or other document – although he certainly prefers to have one on hand.

This also makes her one of the dragons most likely to deal with outside clans, since she constantly has to obtain fertilizer, new soil for growing plants, crafted plant pots, etc. at a significantly faster rate than her clan can produce them. She has gotten quite used to talking to other clans, but that does not mean she enjoys it. In fact, she would be much happier if her job was simply watering plants and being around Statice. But, since it is part of her honorable duty within the clan, she stomachs it for the good of her clanmates.

Dragons visiting the clan have described Orchid as being extremely standoffish, not wanting to start a conversation with them and offering one- or two-word responses to any questions they ask. Despite this, once she has become used to a dragon she will be much more open and friendly. The dragon she has known the longest is Statice, and they have been happily together for years now. She is the one that is quickest to describe herself as being “hopelessly in love” with the graceful Imperial dragon.

When she can, she takes a break from her work to bring bouquets of beautiful flowers to her beloved mate in his library. She knows exactly what ones he likes the look of, and what ones he thinks smell best. Statice, in turn, is always on hand with the growth requirements of each and every plant that she grows for the clan, even the small personal garden she keeps in her own cave chamber. They have even managed to grow such rare plants that they have been able to set up a steady stream of trade with other clans, bartering rare and difficult-to-grow medicinal herbs for many of the commodities that the clan needs.
