Biography

BITTERSWEET
The Color of Autumn

Clan Role: Protection Spirit
Mate: None
Pronouns: he/him
Bio: A twisted, woody vine fell from a tree along with the last of its leaves, but took off before it reached the ground, taking the form of a long, colorful spiral. The new spirit blinked its large eyes, taking in the orange, red, and gold leaves swiftly forming piles on the ground. Well, this won't do at all, the spirit thought to itself, and set about fixing things. With a few whirls of flight, Bittersweet sent all the leaves careening into the air again, until the whole forest was alive with color, the leaves suspended in the air dancing on the many currents he'd called up. Bittersweet laughed, dancing with the leaves for days on end, until the air got too cold and the wonderful colors all reverted to a dry, dead brown.

Bittersweet was confused and sad; what had happened to all his beautiful leaves? He gingerly picked up one of the dead, brown things and watched it crumble to dust in his claws. He looked around to see no leaves left on any of the trees, colorful or not, and sunk his head in despair. The spirit climbed up the tallest of the trees, curled around a branch, and went to sleep. Imagine his joy when the next time he awoke, he saw small buds growing on the tree around him. New life, new growth, and he came to understand and accept the passage of time and the cycle of the seasons. It was good that he did, for he had the power to 'skip' ahead in the cycle, taking himself out of one time and into the next. He can also suspend time for a long moment, though it only affects a small area around him, and he can't keep it up indefinitely; time eventually moves on.

The first time Bittersweet tried to abuse these powers, trying to get ahead to his colorful leaves a little faster and keep the time he could dance with them longer, Nicodemus himself paid him a visit. The two had a long chat which lasted a fraction of a second, and Bittersweet came to understand his true purpose. If he skips ahead to winter and sees it will be particularly harsh, he can return to the spring or summer to help them last a little longer, giving the dragons and other creatures in the Borogrove enough time to get food for the worse months. In some ways, he's the most powerful of all the tree spirits, and yet if he were to use his powers to excess...he could deplete his energy reserves and revert to pure energy. That doesn't stop Spice from envying him, however...
