Biography

HEARTWOOD
The Story of Autumn

Clan Role: Protection Spirit
Mate: None
Pronouns: she/her
Bio: In some ways, Heartwood is the mother of all other tree spirits. She was born from the Behemoth itself, a dragon-shaped bulge forming deep inside the trunk and then pushing outward past the layers of bark. It is her job to keep track of any new spirits that take form, what their powers and purposes are, and to record it. She doesn't use any written language, instead whispering the stories to the trees of the Borogrove, who will remember it long after all else has passed into dust. She can read many things from the voices of the forest and the twisting branches of the trees. Her memory is long and she knows every tree that has ever grown in the Labyrinth. When they were born, how they grew, and when they fell.

Heartwood's powers are difficult to elucidate. Other than remembering and recording information, she also has a sense of what is going on at all times around her. She can close her eyes and concentrate, and take note of anything within the Gladekeeper's domain, from the smallest bee buzzing from flower to flower to the largest tree falling with a crash and taking half the nearby forest with it. This all-encompassing sense of the forest means she is both alert at all times, and yet rather distant from the physical moment in which she exists as a corporeal being.

Unlike most other tree spirits, she has no need of prolonged rest periods to recharge. Her dealings with mortals are few and far between, though she is aware of all that live within the wood.
