Aphelandra was born in Plague- the first dragon hatched after the clan moved to start anew. She was placed into a rigorous and unpleasantly accelerated training program by the second of the Dusk Watch, Centaurea. Aphelandra learned quite a bit more than her teacher had planned - including how important kindness, empathy, and second chances are. Aphelandra defected from the Dusk and is now one of the most valuable members of the Queen's guard.

Aphelandra squarrosa is commonly called the 'zebra plant'. It's native to the Atlantic forest of Brasil.
