The clan was founded by Pteris, whose battle prowess and acumen attracted a group of scholars, engineers, and artists, all protected by a small but valiant group of warriors. The clan thrived for generations, gaining a reputation for inventing small, innovative devices melding engineering and sorcery. It expanded rapidly with resources gained from a thriving business exchanging ideas, items, and members with other clans.
Meanwhile, small groups of dragons began building encampments at the edge of the territory. The main clan called these others “outlanders.” Outlanders were sometimes vagabonds, but more often learning a trade or courting mates in the main clan. They occasionally found a permanent home, but most moved on after a short while. Although outlanders weren't offered full protection, it was preferable to scraping out a living on your own.
However, not all was safe for long. Most of the clan's territory had been stolen from harpy clans, making enemies of the entire race. At the same time, increasing numbers of ‘weaklings’ (alchemists, scientists, and the like) needed protection at home and when travelling, straining the abilities of the clan’s warriors. The harpies, sensing weakness, increased their efforts to destroy the clan.[/size]

Pteris and his advisers decided to start anew, separating the wheat from the chaff by migrating to the Scarred Wasteland. The clan packed its belongings and abandoned its old territory to the angry beastclans. Many were killed along the perilous journey, and others peeled off to new clans and territories or to serve Stormcatcher. A leaner clan settled in Plague.
For a time after the move the Clan became highly militarized. The Guards gained increased status in the clan, second only to the court of law, and their ranks expanded with additional warriors and sorcerers that had once spent their time on scholarly pursuit. Both Outlanders and clan hatchlings were drafted and trained to fight regardless of their clan calling, and were expected to be able to defend the clan if necessary.
Over generations a divide formed. New members had no memory of the dark times, and were not as enthusiastic about a focus on clan defense (although it had become clan custom for all to help with gathering and sentry duty). They also felt that diplomacy and forging alliances were key to the Clan's survival in their new home. These dragons rallied around a new clan member and began calling her Queen. [/size]

The Dusk Court is the most vocal about their opinions. Some can get downright antagonistic and are beginning to get a reputation as bullies.

Those that have allied themselves more closely with the Dawn Court look to Queen Athenaea. Many of the craftsdragons, artists, and gatherers are in this group. They work to encourage alliances with clans that can provide goods and services that make the lives of Clan's dragons easier. Royalty is dependent on bloodline, and the Law is based on logic and reason, not strength or trickery.
The rising strength of the Dawn Court has changed the way that allegiances are formed and disputes are settled. Its members have been actively reaching out to other clans to form strong alliances through trade and marriage. They have also reached out to the local Beastclans, the marens, and recruited and trained an ambassador to the sea.
It remains to be seen which House will prevail, or if the Clan will come to function as a whole that is more than the sum of its parts - and perhaps be stronger because of it. [/font]

A portion of an individual’s goods or services are ‘tithed’ to the clan, and many clan members participate in some endeavors. For example, everyone that is physically and mental capable takes a turn gathering for the clan’s communal larders. Mohria, the clan Chamberlain, makes sure that nobody takes advantage of the clan’s generosity
New visitors that petition to join the clan cannot buy their way in - they have to stay in the Outland lairs until they have proven themselves a potentially useful ally. As long as one isn’t lazy a dragon can make a living in a variety of ways up to and including art, dance, and music. The clan values resiliency and survival, but many (most) of the clan appreciates the finer points of life, including art and comfort.
Of course, treasure and gems are still used occasionally within-clan, and they are extremely useful for between-clan exchanges. The clan maintains a well-stocked treasury for purchases to the clan’s benefit, and clan members are welcome to spend their personal wealth where and when they will.

[*]Shadow: Goop changes properties based on diet for a limitless array of poisons. Immune to poisons. Scary to date. Poor vision overall.
[*]Arcane: Sees magical auras and through all illusions and ‘hiding’ spells. Excellent night vision. Finds daylight excruciating.
[*]Plague: Compound-like eyes have excellent peripheral vision. Can see radioactivity and in infrared/UV wavelengths. Terrible near-range vision that requires reading glasses at a young age.
[*]Fire: Candles lit with primal eyes never go out. Built-in nightlight. Terrible at spy-work. 'Tears’ start raging infernos.
[*]Wind: Eye-patterns are a weather-vane and almanac. Extremely claustrophobic and needs fans on in all inside spaces.
[*]Earth: Injesting a shed eye-stone imbues the consumer with earth-type eyes and skills, including eidetic memory. Active black market for living earth primals means they need protection at all times.
[*]Water: A drop allows underwater breathing without any additional magic. Mediocre vision unless looking under water.
[*]Nature: Consumption of an eye-flower cures all disease and poisons. Does not work on nature dragons. Has an annoying entourage of noisy pollinators.
[*]Light: Can read any cipher or language. Extreme night-blindness.
[*]Lightning: Charges batteries with a glance. Can’t work with or live near electronics because of the constant short-circuits.

- Shadow: Goop changes properties based on diet for a limitless array of poisons. Immune to poisons. Scary to date. Poor vision overall.
- Arcane: Sees magical auras and through all illusions and ‘hiding’ spells. Excellent night vision. Finds daylight excruciating.
- Plague: Compound-like eyes have excellent peripheral vision. Can see radioactivity and in infrared/UV wavelengths. Terrible near-range vision that requires reading glasses at a young age.
- Fire: Candles lit with primal eyes never go out. Built-in nightlight. Terrible at spy-work. 'Tears’ start raging infernos.
- Wind: Eye-patterns are a weather-vane and almanac. Extremely claustrophobic and needs fans on in all inside spaces.
- Earth: Injesting a shed eye-stone imbues the consumer with earth-type eyes and skills, including eidetic memory. Active black market for living earth primals means they need protection at all times.
- Water: A drop allows underwater breathing without any additional magic. Mediocre vision unless looking under water.
- Nature: Consumption of an eye-flower cures all disease and poisons. Does not work on nature dragons. Has an annoying entourage of noisy pollinators.
- Light: Can read any cipher or language. Extreme night-blindness.
- Lightning: Charges batteries with a glance. Can’t work with or live near electronics because of the constant short-circuits.
