Biography
NANN There is the air of a leader about Nann, a carefully composed posture. She walks with her head held high, and there is always a knowing gleam in her eyes, because there are things in world she is privy to more so than anyone else. Yet her coy, assured nature is no barrier; Nann goes to great lengths to remain accessible to her subjects. Her choices stem from a history of war and strife. The past cannot be changed, of course, but the future remains malleable, and she wishes to mold it into a safer place. No one deserves to go through the chaos she and her mate, Olthunir, have endured. No one ought to be stranded without a leader to guide them forward. No one should have to stand on the brink of bitter civil war in a desperate bid for fragile peace. Nann remembers those times. She sometimes wishes she could forget. But she cannot, so she uses her knowledge for the clan's benefit. Most often, she can be found roaming the clan's territory as a sort of overseer, dispensing her sage advice and steady support whenever asked, and sometimes when not asked at all. Bringing order to the still uneasy military branch of the clan is in her wheelhouse as well, much to Olthunir's relief. When the warriors grow restless under her mate's command, Nann organizes hearings to settle their grievances, or trials to sate their thirst for honor and glory. On occasions, she even participates in the games, wielding her belobed bow to prove that she stands equal with her people, not above them. She is never seen without her dear weapon outside of the games, too. It is a representation of her readiness for anything, commissioned from Fire, the local blacksmith, in recognition of her budding talent and in an attempt to bolster the economy from Nann's own pocket. The effects of her treasure spent on the clan have taken root slowly, but her purchases often earn her personal favor, a deeply valuable thing in an unstable world. She curries the favor of all manner of artisans in her lands, taking time to learn their names and crafts well, so that she may refer others to their services in the future. She shows particular delight in the arts, though, often spotted attending opera performances in local settlements, or sitting as the guest of honor at the front row of Inari's piano recitals. A generous patron, her attendance is a sure sign of prosperity to come. Ultimately, though, Nann cannot spend her entire life in the public eye. She cherishes the rare times she is able to spend alone with Olthunir, whether they discuss the clan or discuss nothing at all. Such quiet company soothes her, and she craves it at the end of every day. However, Olthunir is not always able to be pulled from his duties as leader, and Nann fills his absence on such nights with her humming, making tea bags for later use or as gifts. It's simple work, but she is grateful to have it after spending so long teetering on the edge of war. |
