She had tried. She wanted to fit into the Glass Shatter clan. She wanted Moonracer to return her affections. But, life doesn't always work out the way we plan. From the moment she arrived as a young dragon in the Glass Shatter clan she knew she wanted to be with Moonracer. The older imperial had been assigned as her mentor. She was the Familiar Keeper for the clan and had long been needing an assistant. The bestiary had grown considerably as the Glass Shatter grew, and the task had become too great for one dragon to handle on their own. Shaw was to become Moonracer's aid. One look at her mentor, though, and Shaw fell head over heels. Despite her advances, Moonracer was oblivious to the younger dragon's affections. Shaw was persistent. She barely slept over the course of the six months she spent in the Glass Shatter clan. She wanted nothing more than to please her admired, so she took her role as her assistant seriously. Before the dawn, Shaw was up and tending to the familiars. Long after Moonracer retired for the evening, Shaw would stay and watch over her charge. She carried out every order for her admired, but it seemed that Moonracer saw her as no more than a child... her assistant. It had been far too long. Shaw couldn't keep living this way. Her heart ached every time she saw her mentor. It wasn't enough to occupy the same space as her anymore. She wanted to be with her. Mustering up her courage, she approached her admired one day and professed her love. "I'm sorry my dear, you are a lovely dragon with a beautiful heart, but I just don't see anyone that way." Moonracer's eyes softened, Shaw could see that it was hurting her mentor to let her down like this, "Of course I care for you, but I can't love anyone like that. I have to be alone." She embraced Shaw, genuinely distraught at the thought of the pain she was causing to her admirer. But, it could never be. Shaw blinked back her tears, mumbling something about how she didn't really mean it anyway... it was fine. "I... I think I'm going to take a break from watching the familiars today if that's alright." Moonracer nodded her permission. When she reached her quarters, Shaw didn't stop. She just kept walking. She didn't know where she was going, but she wouldn't be staying in the Glass Shatter anymore. She couldn't. Lore by: ShadyRabbit Clan Paladin - Following her leave of Crownfire Twice. She's been to two different Clans now, each some place she hoped would be her permanent home, but twice now she had to leave each. The first, she left because of her broken heart, not bearing to stay in the same Clan where her first true love was. The second was from the fires. After living in a land of ice for so long, she thought perhaps a land of fire would help melt her frozen core, but after the flames began and all her Familiar research information along with her weaponry was caught up in it, she knew deep down she couldn't do it. With her heart continually falling into deeper despair, she wandered. She bid Clan Crownfire goodbye and left, wandering eastward with very little thought as to where she was going. She stopped by several kind-hearted Clans on her journey, especially once she reached the thunder-plagued lands of the Shifting Expanse. Most Clans she met, she only stayed a day or two with, but there were a few she stayed with for several, bringing her hopes she could possibly find a place among them, but only for her to realize she couldn't. And so she continued on, reaching the Sunbeam Ruins. Shaw had been to several different regions of Sornieth by now, but the Sunbeam Ruins felt the most... warm. Not the same as the Ashfall Wastes, where magma flowed in all directions, but here it was warm from the sunshine that glowed overhead. |
