Instead, the mirror vanishes for days on end, and when she is around, she avoids physical touch and watches the clan's behavior from the shadows of her bird-skull mask, never participating. As far as any of the clanmembers know, she's the oldest member apart from the founders Vellemere and Maverick themselves. In fact, she's become a motherly figure for both of them, though she doesn't let anyone else see it.

You ask me who I? How many times have you asked me that question, never getting a response? Well, it's finally time for an answer, seeing as you're so persistent. Or rather, too persistant. You see, I'm the reason Vellemere and Maverick even made the trek from their lazy life in the Sunbeam ruins to the Abiding Boneyard. They were so convinced they'd find some kind of cure there, hidden in the dusty pages of some moth-eaten book. As if. Plague alone is the source of all maladies. In Plague alone can solutions be found. But, of course, I've known Vellemere and Maverick for far longer than they've been in Plague. No, that wasn't our first encounter. I've known Maverick since he was a hatchling. Such an unlucky child he was. Even then, I knew the true nature of his condition, but I can never share it, for he must first survive it before he is worthy. Whether he survives through his own strength, or through the hard work of his alchemists and mages, I care not. He simply must survive. |
