Felice, Part 1, Interlude

Continued from Nightsky Part 1

Felice and Nightsky stood awkwardly by Lumiere as a familiar white-and-black Nocturne turned from shocked to furious upon seeing the couple. When they tried smiling at the old Nocturne, that only seemed to set him off.

“What are they doing here?” Dewlap snarled.

Nightsky cleared his throat noisily before daring to speak. “I believe we started off on the wrong—”

“Because of you,” Dewlap snapped, “taking my Fear brought harm to another dragon.”

“Dewlap,” Lumiere finally began. “I'd like to introduce you to my old friends Felice and Nightsky.”

“What are you doing?” Dewlap growled. “I know who they are. You know that I know. And they shouldn't be here.”

“So you don't believe they deserve another chance, then?”

“After what happened last night? Absolutely n—”

“Need I remind you of what you said about Mudflat and Coral?” the big blue Imperial said with a grin creeping up. “How did you put it?” He then shrank and shifted his body and voice to look and sound exactly like the old Nocturne. “Nodrake's going to punish you, Coral, we just want you back, and Silver needs you. Mudflat, you can still come back with us, if you'll help me with this.” Lumiere shifted back and looked down triumphantly at Dewlap's flustered state. “Ring any bells?”

Dewlap stuttered before steadying his voice and hardening his glare. “What about April? How is she going to feel about this?”

“And what about poor Rocky?” Lumiere countered. “Did you ever consider how he'd feel about Coral coming back? You were so willing to give Coral and Mud another chance but not these two.”

Lumiere's answer silenced him. For a few moments, at least.

“And those other Fears?” Dewlap asked, glancing to Night and Felice again.

“On their way back to their original owners,” Lumiere reassured him.

“You know I still hate you, right?”

“And you hate when I'm right. But I promise,” the Imperial added, turning his gaze back to Felice and Night, “there'll be no more trouble from these two. Isn't that right?”

“We would be very grateful for this opportunity to start over,” Felice said to Dewlap, tipping her hat slightly.

“No more bothers,” Night agreed.

Dewlap saw movement out of the corner of one eye. More dragons were waking and emerging from their rooms, and most eyed the four curiously, especially the two newcomers.

“All right,” Dewlap sighed, giving in. “But this stays between us.”

“I'll go tell April the good news!” Lumiere exclaimed with another grin before he vanished with a flash.

...

That night, Felice and Nightsky were settling in to their new room, stripping off their cloaks and robes before heading to bed.

“At least Lumiere brought our things for us,” Felice started, placing the last spell books, scrolls and potions on the shelves.

“Can we really trust him?” Night wondered aloud. “After what Lord Arawn said he did to those dragons all those years ago? But something doesn't seem right... Arawn wouldn't allow us or anydrake else to enter the dungeons after Lumiere left...”

“Arawn went into shock after what happened to Ruby, he must've wanted to be alone with her. He loved her too much, and he was angry, so he banished us all. The dragons here seem to adore Lumiere. Well, most do,” Felice added.

Night was alarmed. “Adore? You're not succumbing to his wit and charm already, are you?”

“Of course not,” the Tundra she-drake chuckled, sidling up to him. “I could never find anydrake more charming than you,” she said, nuzzling him. He did the same, pulling her close with both wings.

“When Arawn...” Night trailed off quietly, unable to finish that sentence, and he sighed. “I was afraid that I'd lost you...that I was going to lose you.”

“You won't, now,” Felice hushed. “We still have some time left together.” She looked up at him then, her ruby-red eyes twinkling. “And you know what?”

“Yes?”

“You did make a handsome mer-drake.”

They both laughed, softly.
