Anaisa is the daughter of Ursa the Swamp witch, and the sister of the martial arts fighter Rabia, but shows no similar characteristics. Unlike her sister, who she is so often confused with, Anaisa would much rather hide in the back of the library and collect her data on the other dragons. Obsessed with statistics and transactions, she keeps a tight grip on all information at her clawtips. Simbi, her master, was incredibly surprised and nervous to hear of a massive guardian looking after her books, but Anaisa's particularity and care when handling the books and slips of paper made her the perfect assistant. Anaisa's charge is surprisingly, receipts. Any records of transactions, be they financial or data-based, are kept with her, where she guards them from all who ask to make a return. As the market grows and becomes more permanent, her ability to remember all locations of receipts and previous transactions make her popular among the guests and merchants, earning her a shopfront built at the side of the library. This way she can greet her customers and keep access to her books, without the other guests making a mess of the library and disturbing the other users. She works next to Rat, the slave kept as an officer, and the two have become friends due to it. Her fierce appearance means fights very rarely break out among her rather angry customers, which she is glad for. She is absolutely terrible in a fight, and would much rather fights be quelled before they begin properly. Her bone armor was a gift from her mother when she returned. Like all guardians, she had left on her Search, but returned home when she saw the ferocity of the outside world. Ursa was initially worried for her child, but Anaisa seemed to really enjoy working in the library. It took another guardian to let the pearlcatcher know her daughter had found her Charge, and was working with it every single day.

“You can come in, you know,” a voice intoned. “I’d prefer it if you made yourself known next time, though.” Startled, Anaisa flitted bashfully inward, mortified at being caught lurking. She didn’t mean to loiter outside the den for so long, but there was something vaguely sinister about the doorway that made her hesitant to enter. She was still hesitant to enter, but, she reasoned, there was no point in waiting any longer now that she’d been discovered. The interior of the den was much warmer and much smaller than Anaisa expected it to be. The walls were lined with rows upon rows of shelving, all of them overflowing with various jars of crushed powders and vials of strange liquids. There was a sparse nest in the corner that looked like it didn’t see much use, and the lair was warmly illuminated by several floating orbs of light. A large, cast-iron cauldron atop a blue flame dominated most the space, and the concoction within filled the den with a strong herbal scent. A brown coatl stood over the pot, her cobweb covered wings glowing dully in the low light. With one clawed hand, she stirred her pot with what seemed to be a long wooden spoon. With the other, she dropped a few dried leaves into the liquid below. When her eyes finally lifted from her cauldron to land on Anaisa, her calm expression changed to one of mild surprise. “Oh,” the coatl said. “We don’t get that many hatchlings around here. I thought you were my mother. Did you need something?” “Your mother?” Anaisa asked before she could stop herself. “Yes, my mother. Chimalmat. You’ve probably seen her around,” she answered. Now that she mentioned it, she did hold a striking resemblance to the brusque tiger-like hunter. Which could only mean-- “You’re the village witch!” Anaisa exclaimed, immediately regretting her outburst. Oh, Gladekeeper, she hoped she hadn’t offended her. To Anaisa’s surprise, the coatl’s face broke into a wide grin. “Is that what they’re calling me now?” she snickered. “Well, I suppose they’re not wrong. But still, you never answered my question. Did you need something, hatchling?” “My name is Anaisa. And yes, Simbi sent me to ask you to brew some more warming potion for her. She says her supply is running low.” This didn’t seem to be news to the coatl. “Yes, I think she mentioned something like that yesterday. You can tell Simbi I’ll have her supply restocked by nightfall.” Anaisa nodded, satisfied. “Thank you, Village Wi- I mean-.” “You can call me Maple,” the witch said, fighting the urge to laugh at the serious-faced youngling. “Thank you, Maple,” Anaisa corrected. Anaisa turned to leave, but before she could bring herself to, her curiosity got the better of her. “What are you brewing now, Maple?” “Lunch. Would you like some?” she offered, lifting the spoon to her mouth to take a thoughtful taste. “Yes, please.”
