When the world was a growing thing, the Plaguebringer created dragons by hand and unleashed them upon the world to spread the virus. Two of these were the most powerful of all, going on to be called 'witches' as they settled down into the marshy swamplands of Quod Labryinthus.

Many centuries later their ranks would swell, including other witches so powerful they could count themselves as gods. One of these holds powers which terrify all: the ability to manipulate flesh.

One of the more elusive ones is called Sif, I believe. They appear to change their form often, from masculine to feminine, but usually settle into an androynous appearance. I identify them by a tome they carry. Often they do not take victims, but instead hunt down rare tomes with especially esoteric magic. It seems that when they do take victims, they are other powerful mages. My assumption is this is to steal their techniques. Whilst not as outright terrifying as the others, Sif unsettles me perhaps the most. I hope to never cross their path.

The document was left on a table overnight, but in the morning was in a slightly different position, as if moved.

Hm. A thoughtful read. If only my mind would stay still. Oh, the realities I remember. The name Acies, son of Maras, a skull from a fleshweaver, the sun on a cold morning. The name Shaye, a campsite, a brother, starving. One orange eye stares.

Calpernia. I wish you could tell me. I will find a way to speak to you again. Until then I will grow stronger, I will study, and I will carve my bloody path through this world.
