Gibbous | Arcanist
PERSONALITY | PERSONALITY | PERSONALITY

Gibbous, from the moment she hatched, had a passion for magic.
She seemed destined for magical research. As a young hatchling she devoured book after book, spellbooks and theories and even fiction, as long as it pertained to magic. It was a strange pursuit for a Lightning dragon, but she found herself at home among spellwrought tomes and watching experiments go by. For a time, Gibbous felt it her destiny to stand among the researchers, casting spell after spell and exercising the blessing of magic in the hopes of discovering its secrets.
It was not to be. Soon, Gibbous's nestmates caught up to her prowess. Then they got better. And better. And still Gibbous was struggling to catch up, mere witchlights being the extent of her strength. It was the day her last nestmate began casting levitation spells with ease that Gibbous realized she would never catch up.
None of her clanmates could find out what was wrong, if anything at all. Gibbous ignored them; after all, powerless was powerless, no matter how you looked at it or what it was named. What was the point of knowing if the end result was the same?
It was when the search for her ills reached their peak among her family that Gibbous left.
-
Gibbous searched for a place to lose herself.
Where better than the Southern Icefield? Expansive, inhospitable, and solitary were some of the things Gibbous had heard about the Icewarden's lands. They sounded like the perfect place for her to be alone.
A few months passed where Gibbous lived wherever shelter made itself known. Fallen trees; abandoned lairs; Dens dug into the snow and ice. Every night under the stars Gibbous cast her witch-lights and stared into them, her mind running over all the spells she'd never be able to cast.
Every now and again, she found clans. Sometimes she spoke to them, other times she kept her distance. It wasn't until she ran into Clan Maroke that she found anywhere to stay.
At first her visit was to be temporary. They had seen her on the edges of the forest during their hunts, offered her a cave to sleep in and a hearty meal to warm her stomach. Just a day or two, she promised herself, and then she'd go back to the unforgiving wilds, to sleep under the stars and watch her lights and live away from shame.
Instead, she found herself standing within a library. It was dusty, but she could already feel the thoughtful thrum of magic tomes, spellbooks and arcane tales just waiting to be read. She hadn't realized just how much she missed her clan's library until a Tundra trotted out from between the shelves.
Gibbous stayed for a week, listening to Charlie tell countless stories, before she pulled a dragon aside to ask the question niggling at her mind. "How does he remember all these stories?" She inquired, fascinated. "Aren't tundras prone to forgetting?"
"The Loremaster's special," the dragon replied. "He remembers everything he's learned."
There and then, Gibbous saw a glimmer of hope. Charlie could overcome his breed's predisposition for forgetfulness; maybe, just maybe, she could learn to overcome her own shortcomings.
It took most of the day to work up her courage, but Gibbous asked that evening if she could stay permanently. "I'll be helpful," she promised the clan. "I work with spellbooks. I can keep them sorted and safe. I know a lot about magic."
Ever since, she's remained in the Clan's library, puzzling over spellbooks once more. And there are plenty of magical puzzles to solve, and even if she doesn't have much magic herself, there are dragons coming into the clan - those Arcane Knights - which have an awful lot of magic and puzzles both.

Magic is chaos, art and science. It is a curse, a blessing and a progression.

A number of items she's gathered for herself are the following:
