This clan's first tundra, Co-founder, Patriarch

He tried to tell Halcyon that "Drifter" wasn't his name, but when he just showed up one day, it was the only thing she would call him. He just goes by it now.
He's pretty worried about his children's love of scorpions, but he'd never tell them that.

Being a progen, appearing into existence without any previous knowledge is already hard enough, but meeting the fae was even stranger. Tundras and Fae were just so different, in both size and socialization, and for the first living creature for him to meet, perhaps it was one of the worst situations.

Halycon was the little fae's name, and she was probably even stranger than many of her race, it was overwhelming to watch her flit around him with quick wing beats, tugging at his fluff as if trying to unearth hidden frills to ease her communication. He would clumsily turn to try to keep his gaze on her as her monotone voice filled the air, chittering about how strange he was, as if he wasn't just as perplexed with the tiny dragon. He had a true name once, of course, he appeared with it at the forefront of his mind, one of the small bits of knowledge he had. But the overbearing girl had started calling him Drifter, and it had settled so deeply in his brain that he forgot his old name within a week.

However, with the two of them destined to form a clan together, it didn't take long for them to become used to each other's quirks. Drifter had started burrowing his den on day one, with Halycon looking on curiously as he did so. By the time it was done, the fae had squeezed herself inside with him, molding her sap against the wall until she had a nest she was happy with. Even through the apathetic gaze stereotypical of her race, the tundra could see she was quite pleased with herself as he rolled his eyes in annoyance.

They had worked together quite well, despite the size and culture difference. Drifter would carry the large logs needed for the clan on his broad back, with Halycon tugging along comically large sacks full of captured insects and string. Before long, the small hole in the ground had grown to a series of connected tunnels and rooms. It had finally felt like home. He would often find the tiny girl curled up in his large mane of fur in the mornings, lightly snoring by his ear, and he had realized that she had made it feel like a home just as much as the decorated walls had.

Eventually, the two of them had grown closer than simply clan leaders, but he had a feeling they had both known it to be their destiny. By the time their children had hatched, he found himself well versed in fae culture, devoting most of his memory to remembering the patterns of their crests in order to better understand his mate and hatchlings. Tiny nests of sap had appeared all along the walls of their burrow, most of them congregating in his sleeping area. Just as their mother had, they would sneak into his mounds of fluff, tangling themselves into his fur in the night and stealing strands during the day to line their golden nests. They always filled him with pride and overwhelming happiness, even when they caused trouble around the clan.

Haylcon had praised him later on, she had often lost track of who their children were, but the tundra's olfactory memory made it so he at least recognized the scent of each and every one of their family line. Drifter had praised her in turn, however, for her affinity with magic, protecting their clan and helping the land to flourish around them. They found themselves relying on each other, and being glad that they had been born to such different races.
