Dolor was an unexpected piece not foreseen by Sabaneta when she went to recruit the Wraith of Hate, sure she had heard tales of a ghost following the creature, but she had chalked it up to superstition. So when she was confronted with the mechanical mirror she was quite surprised, mainly because on the higher planes, nothing was there. A ghost in truth. The odd lack of a true soul is not something the Handler has encountered before, but it could be because Dolor is artificial life. Though normally when sentience is achieved, and the machine begins to form a personality, it will also form a soul. It doesn’t look like the average soul, but it is a soul nonetheless and Dolor has none. The machine makes most of the Children uncomfortable, at least with Odi they can expect certain behavior. Dolor is more difficult to read, that is to say, completely impossible. Dolor does not do facial expressions or body language. It has no Presence, rarely speaks, and seems to have no desires or personality. Most of the time it seems it just lumbers after Odi, silently watching. And the Wraith of Sorrow sees a lot. When it does speak, it does not stop to consider the feelings of others, they are irrelevant hindrances. Dolor is very good at getting to the point, and nicely balances out Odi’s volatile personality. Without Dolor they would not get anything done, and it seems to be the only creature that does not set him into a rage accidently. The reason for this, eloquently explained by Sorrow, is because “they are not an eyesore”. Despite being the more clearheaded of the two Enforcers Dolor is the follower, it has no desire to lead or hold power. Dolor is extremely passive, it hardly reacts to anything. Odi has emotion enough both of them apparently, more than enough. Don’t be fooled, Dolor is clever, it just doesn’t do anything with the knowledge. Before Dolor was Odi’s shadow, it was part of pack. Though it was originally created somewhere else. The pack entered Odi’s Keep, and as a result they were all killed. But Dolor was spared, and then it decided to follow Odi. The machine agreed to follow Sabaneta when Odi did, no reluctance or hesitation. Dolor will always follow Odi, an odd sort of loyalty between them. It is a much more tactical fighter than Odi, and almost impossible to kill. No wounds seem to harm it or even hurt it. Dolor feels no pain, but this has not let to the callous recklessness Odi displays. The machine could be destroyed, Dolor is not immortal like its companion. Though it is hard to completely erase something that can upload its mind into other machinery, who does in theory not need a body. Azilmath is in charge of keeping Dolor’s body working flawlessly, and every time she needs to work on it Odi will watch like a hawk, ready to rip off the engineer's head. The Wraith of Sorrow was not named so without reason, Dolor has a peculiar skill for dragging others down. It seems like the machine enjoys spreading the feelings of despair and depression. To make others absolutely miserable. |
