Fairfield loves clothing. It's a near-certainty that she'd change around outfits that she wears, though her tastes tend to run the guadier the better. She's never seen without her Pearly Alchemic Jewelry, and often wears long coats, dresses, and tunics in bright colors.

That choice in her clothing started off as a defense mechanism. One look at her siblings, and Fairfield knew she was different. While they were pink, which she also was, she also had large splotches of a dark purpleish blue. While it helped her hide in the Tangled Wood, it didn't help her hide in the bright party world her family thrust her into.

It was a trouble dressing her. She clashed with everything she tried on, and her family was little help in the costuming expertise. They cared little about what she wore, as long as she wore something and went to the parties. She also had little help when it came to what to say. She often embarrassed herself as others threw stealth insults at her. It took her some time to realize what the other dragons truly meant.

After a few disastrous parties, she decided if she was going to clash with everything, then she would pick how she clashed with everything.

She found some beautiful jewelry that, while in a simple color with a basic opalescent sheen, they were large. She cared little for the colors she picked for her new outfits, as long as they were bright and coordinated, in some way. She even played up the naïveté others expected of her based on her clothing choices. They made fun of her for being different, but she made fun of them in return for being the same. It was a game to her, even if none knew that her choices went from "uninformed" to "tease back."

It was at one such event she met the speaker of a clan from the Plateau. He had pale grey scales, though some, like hers, ended up a different color. A pink. While he played at being quiet, the pink scaled betrayed some part of him.

While others hid their insults behind sweet words, he was rather blunt in what he said to her. He quickly saw through her naïveté and spoke to her with actual kind words. While the two of them started off with a mere correspondence, Fairfield chose to leave the parties and her family behind, and make her new home with the grey-and-pink Spiral with the clear-but-kind words.

It was not an easy transition. She prepared for the worst with his clan, especially since unlike her home clan, it was a mix of several kinds of dragons, however, others asked questions about her favorite jewelry and large wardrobe. It took her some time for her defensive speaking to die down. The clan was kind and welcoming, and while not every question was nice, they were at least well-intentioned.

Her attitude of laughing at others because they were the same died down. They had their reasons for the choices, and she began to understand those reasons. She still keeps up her changing dresses and robes and constant jewelry, but it was because part of her loved the bright colors and heavy weight from her ears and neck. They may have been born of inexperience and once worn as armor, but she still felt that if she would clash with everything, she might as well find her favorite ways of clashing with the world.

Fairfield is also named after Jane Fairfield of The Heiress Effect, the second full book of the Brothers Sinister series by Courtney Milan.
