D A R L E N E
“The glimmers and glinting of magic cling to me.
I am large but gentle, like the sweetest stars.” There are two types of dragons; most dragons, and then Darlene. She is happy by nature and very little can change that. She enjoys humming. It is a way to cheer herself up on the rare occasion she isn’t feeling like herself; it’s a way to send the little hatchlings to sleep when they’re misbehaving; it’s a way to relax, the vibrations of her throat making her scales rumble in a way that could send her right off to sleep if she wasn’t careful. There have been several occasions when relaxing with Ellera (or Elle) that Darlene has found out she is capable of quite literally humming herself to sleep. Those are moments that she will never live down, but she’s okay with that; Elle’s teasing is good-natured and she makes sure never to go too far. Darlene wants to be the clan healer. It is her life’s aspiration. She likes helping in ways that Ellera never will, particularly when it comes to the hatchlings in the clan. They just complement each other well that way, Darlene always thinks. It is this desire to help that makes her cry at dramatic soap operas. Ellera is sworn to secrecy about that, but that’s what she does. Whenever someone finds out they’re pregnant or someone proposes to their mate, Darlene tears up. There’s just something about seeing other people happy that gets to the little Snapper. She also collects toy dolls, especially ones that a clan member found when they were gathering or in the Coliseum; even little dolls need love too, after all! It isn’t often that Darlene can be seen without Ellera at her side; the two are inseparable. Friends from childhood, Darlene and Elle share many of their favourite things, from their favourite colours and foods to favourite familiars. The one time that Elle is sent away is when Darlene is studying; there is nothing more serious than her studies. She is sure that she’s the whole dragon in the whole world to understand that there’s a difference between play time and study time. It’s times like that when Darlene needs to use her naturally louder voice to instil some wisdom into her friend, who will huff and shuffle off reluctantly but without complaint, knowing just how important learning how to heal for the clan is to Darlene. They’re just good for each other that way.
