Emerus' memories from before he was kidnapped by Icewarden zealots and dragged along to the Southern Icefield are like a brightly colored, sun drenched blur. He didn't have much time to see anyplace else- just as soon as he decided to strike out and travel the world a bit, wham, before he knew it he was netted, drugged, and carted across the ocean. His kidnappers had made a bad call thinking they could keep an Imperial drugged and influenced. Only a few days after they landed on the icy shores Emerus broke through the haze enough to lash out, sending both zealots and his fellow prisoners fleeing. It was better than being dragged all the way to the Fortress of Ends, but he was still stranded and lost in the middle of a blinding blizzard, surrounded by more intense cold than he had ever imagined. He staggered on for a short time before curling up in the nearest hollow that could shelter him from the driving snow. He might have died from the cold- more or less a massive, lost, miserable sparkly bird- if Finch, another freed captive, hadn't come back looking for fellow survivors and found him. She used her Fire based magic to warm him up enough to keep him alive (though he was still quite miserable), curling around his neck like a living scarf, until he gathered enough strength to use his own magic again. With his influence over Wind he made a buffer shield around the small hollow, directing the worse of the freezing winds around a pocket of sheltered air that Finch could keep heated. They managed like that for a while, not realizing that they were creating quite a reputation for themselves until Ianna showed up searching for the fierce Ice mage that rumor held was living in the area, driving away anyone who approached with gusts of wind filled with razor-like shards of ice. They weren't the sort of mages she was looking for, but once Emerus and Finch heard that her mission was to strike back against the same fanatical cult that had dragged them here away from their homes, they were both game to join her mission. Neither Emerus or Finch had been fighters or even violent tempered before, but having seen what this cult was doing and how badly they needed to be stopped- both of them quickly learned how to change that. Emerus has become a very... odd shade of terrifying. He generally has a very friendly nature, quick to laugh and wanting to help others. The sort of person who would derail his whole day to try and help an injured animal or to help someone find a lost pet. But if Ianna says it's time to be serious? The Eleven help you then. He'll go from laughing and suggesting you ought to go out for a friendly drink later into sighing and very firmly saying, well, it will be the last drink you'll ever have, but did you want it anyway? |
