Biography
NINAD
The Acoustic Engineer
The Acoustic Engineer
Ninad's parents noticed, from the first day he hatched, that he didn't respond to emotion the way most Skydancers did. The joy of his brother's hatching barely caught at all, though he was pleased and a little proud to meet his younger sibling.
With him, his parents soon realized, they had to do something a little different. Where they could direct his brother - scold him for running away, summon him to them for food, even let him know with a fond look or smile that he was loved - with Ninad they had to make things a little more obvious. Soon the whole family had adapted to clarifying their body language, speaking their questions aloud, or expressing fondness with words rather than the curve of a shoulder, or the tilt of their eyes. Though others in the clan were slower, perhaps, to pick up on the adaptation, Ninad never seemed to mind. They frightened him, sometimes; the big hulking forms of the Guardians and the Ridgebacks towering over him; the lithe Imperials long enough to wrap around him a hundred times. But he soon discovered that, frightening though they might have been, big dragons also produced sound. They rumbled and groaned and roared, even for the easiest of conversations, and the sound vibrated through the rooms they were in, making his feet tingle and all his feathers stand on end. It was glorious. He realized, too, that sound traveled differently depending on where you were, or what you stood beside. Large caverns echoed, small cave vibrated. Kelp deadened the sound, but smooth rock made it echo. Each created a different effect. Did that work the same, he wondered, above the water? How did anyone get a message across in an emergency in the Tangled Wood if the trees absorbed all the sound? Did the ice of the Southern Icefield create a better diffraction pattern? His parents didn't understand why he had to know. But they waved him off and wished him farewell, and he journeyed out into the world, full of questions. Bio written by Siennia His name is of Indian origin, it means "sound" or "hum" in Sanskirt. He was received as a gift from Siennia, and his original ancestors are Shamash and Acantha.
