Hamuni came to Ista as a last resort, a desperate attempt to save her own skin. The depths of the Leviathan Trench were as far away as physically possible from the Twisting Crescendo and the ominous presence of the waiting Windsinger. Here, in the depths of the ocean, she might escape him.

It was an acceptable life. She found she liked living under the wave; her form was as the rippling water, and the thrill of the hunt often drove all fears and suspicions from her mind. For a few hours, at least.

Daksim arrived in the clan shortly after her. Optimistic and trusting, she often found his presence comforting, and soon found herself curling up beside him at night and sharing stories about the day. As she got to know him better, however, she discovered one other, crucial facet of his personality that she could not understand: his firm and unwavering belief in the compassion of the deities. Logically, she knows that not everyone has had the same experience she has. Sometimes she feels she should tell him, warn him away from his fervent admiration of the Tidelord and the Gladekeeper. The words bubble up inside her as he chatters away: They stole my family from me. My parents, my siblings, all gone from one moment to the next. They were dragged away by the wind, and they screamed as they went, but somehow they always die down again.

She knows she should tell him, but she also doesn't want to be the one to rip away his childish optimism. She doesn't want to watch the fear grow in his eyes.

Cursing herself as a coward, she carries on, and pretends she doesn't agree with everything Lorrigan says when he rails against the ineffable workings of the world.
