"A heap of broken images, where the sun beats,
And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,
And the dry stone no sound of water."

"He is quiet compared with his sisters. He takes his fights stealthily and with great deliberation. Though an outsider could not easily tell, his every move is decided several moments prior, as in a chess match. He has a voice like velvet - soft and deep - and moves gracefully like his mother, Paige." - ixris

Bound was attentive to the lessons his mothers gave him, whether they involved dealing with the undead or the best way to bind books or make tea. Though he seemed slower to grasp concepts than his sisters did, he always did whatever task he had been taught perfectly the first time.

His next youngest sister, Verso, was frequently exasperated by his ponderous nature. Quick and decisive, though perhaps lacking in her brother's deliberate accuracy, she was impatient to find a cause and a place to protect, so when she heard the clan secretary's tales of his birth clan, an island in the Starfall Isles that was suffering from curses and spirits, she immediately decided that this was where she should head and that her brother ought to accompany her. Bound took longer to come to that conclusion, studying routes and descriptions of the isles in his mothers' texts, but he finally decided to join her on her journey. What he had read of the Starfall Isles intrigued him, and he thought he had best look after his impetuous little sister.

They set off through the barren expanse of Dragonhome, traveling south, carefully hoarding the water they carried with them, making it last until they reached the eaves of the Tangled Wood. They had never seen a land such as this, dark and cluttered and damp. The siblings no longer had a straight view of where they were heading and were soon lost.

Experienced in the supernatural thanks to the training their mothers had given them, the wildclaws were quick to sense that there was something wrong with the grove of pines they stumbled into - a sense of ancient malevolence, and their presence had awoken it. Regardless, the hatchlings were worn out from traveling on unfamiliar surfaces - the boggy ground was so different from the solidity of their homeland - so they built a fire and vowed to take shifts keeping watch. They overestimated their own abilities, though, and hadn't realized how sleepy spending all day in the shadows would make them, so before long, both hatchlings had fallen into slumber.

They awoke wrapped in roots which were slowly pulling them beneath the surface. Biting and clawing had little effect, and they were unable to use their magic effectively in such a state. Then they sensed another magic augmenting their own, shadowy tendrils weaving into the roots and parting them from their prey until the small wildclaws were able to wriggle free.

Bound and Verso turned to find a bespectacled coatl standing in a magic circle of his own construction. With a final flourish, he completed the incantation and sent the spirits back to their own realm. The coatl Visk was concerned to find two hatchling siblings wandering the woods alone, especially hatchlings from another region who were unfamiliar with the terrain and flora of the Tangled Wood. Embarrassed by his failure, Bound privately agreed with the coatl that they had been foolhardy and had perhaps set out before they were fully prepared to combat everything the spirit world could throw at them. His sister told the coatl of their plan to travel to the Starfall Isles and rid an island there of the spirits infesting it. When Visk expressed an interest in traveling with them to see the island for himself, Bound was glad of the older dragon's company, especially as they crossed the border into the Scarred Wasteland and the landscape became even more alien and strange. The weird pink tint of the rocks once they finally reached the Starfall Isles was perhaps the aspect of the landscape that he found the oddest, though. It was so different from the warm rock of his home.

It took longer than the wildclaws had anticipated when they studied the maps in the library in their home clan, but eventually the exorcist trio arrived at Lantern Port and took the ferry across to the island of Prufrock. They were astonished by what they found there, however - tree spirits, sea spirits, moon spirits and underworld spirits, all out in the open, wearing the guise of dragons and interacting with the clan's residents as if there was nothing unnatural about it. What's more, these were no minor spirits, easily banished. His sister made the mistake of trying anyway. Thankfully the spirit was amused at her attempt rather than angered, and all of them made a pact with the clan leader Ez not to bother any of the spirits who were on the island on diplomatic missions.

Ez and the other residents hadn't anticipated what the effect would be of so many powerful spirits congregating in a relatively small location in the material realm, however. It made the boundaries between the realms weak. The dream mages were the first to notice, as the boundary is always thinner in the dreamscape than in the physical plane, but soon other spirits began to penetrate the divider that separated the worlds. Some were merely curious or had wandered there by accident, and Bound, Verso, and Visk were easily able to send them back. Others spirits, however, arrived intent on wrecking chaos or seeking revenge, and those the trio had to destroy or forcefully banish, often with the aid of the most obscure spells the clan's librarians could find in the crumbling texts of the archives.

Bound specializes in binding spirits to a particular object or place. Though the exorcists try to deal with each incursion quickly so that the spirit doesn't damage the place it is bound to (or, in the case of a spirit bound to an object, to prevent the object from falling into the wrong hands), it can take some time to determine whether the spirit needs to be banished or destroyed, and Bound is able to give his cohorts (and himself) some extra time to deliberate as to the best course of action.

The exorcists are currently working on building up the boundaries and restoring them to their previous state so that fewer incursions occur. When Verso and Bound's younger brother Shadow joined the clan and began exploring the tunnels that ran underneath it, he made them aware of additional weak spots beneath the surface that they are working with him to shore up.

When Verso and Bound's younger brother Tome had his first nest, they were dismayed that an earth spirit managed to break through their wards and attack it. The first-hatched, a wildclaw named Ayla, was possessed by the spirit, and while they sealed it within her as best they could, she later left the clan to seek out their mothers in Oakrest in the hopes of completely eradicating it; the other, a coatl named Quercus, suffered from severe seizures. The exorcists hold out hope that their mothers can cure their niece and deeply regret that their precautions, extensive as they were, still weren't enough to protect their own family.
