Birthday isn't quite sure WHY she has to be in this clan, but she knows she does. Even though she's the only Snapper, even though she's one of the youngest dragons sticking around, even though her Wind eyes and her nomadic heritage are itching to move. But this lair is important. This clan is important. And despite all her misgivings, it seems like this just might be the perfect home. She doesn't have any colleagues to help guide her (or just, you know, talk to her). There used to be Snappers like her here, a couple that just couldn't seem to move until suddenly they did. But their records didn't move with them and nobody else has the memory or the heart to take up the mantle of clan historian, so it fell to Birthday. The opportunity is incredible- this is the sort of position that simply can't exist in a Snapper pack because they can't travel with scrolls and don't really need them, and besides, there would be plenty of dragons older and more qualified than her in one of those clans. There are more than enough old dragons here, but she doesn't think they mind. She's taken up residence in one tidier lair ruins, a library with existing storage space and a breathtaking aura of ancient importance. While she maintains a day-to-day database of the clan's minutiae, her true passion is the sweeping historical arc of its members and their offspring. It was this passion that led her to another — her union with the clan's priest, Aliento. While the two come from incredibly different backgrounds, they were drawn to each other's relentless work ethic and interest in Light's history immediately. However, neither of them would discover the feelings were mutual until Aliento began a long courtship ritual to prove his love. Their first nest was a pack of Snappers destined for missionary work, all devoted to the Lightweaver and to the boundless possibilities that Sornieth's realms offered. But Aliento and Birthday's pride turned to tragedy as their children were sacrificed to foreign deities, their correspondence ending abruptly. After a long period of mourning and consideration, the couple nested again, hoping for a better chance at happiness for their children. Pamiec and Waarheid are just as passionate and headstrong as their first children, and Birthday is just as thrilled as she is nervous for their entry into the world at large. |
