"We’re here for a good time, not a long time. Don’t half-arse it. I’ll laugh if I want, dance if I want. Sometimes it’s nice to freefall."
❁ STORY
Bereave was the firstborn child of the clan. The very first egg to hatch in their nesting grounds. As such, she was doted on for much of her youth and loved by all. She was meant to be the heir to Venin’s clan (his escape from leadership, more like), but it really didn’t take long before it became woefully obvious that she would make a terrible leader. Absolutely dreadful. Unlike her father, Bereave displays no seriousness whatsoever. She’s outgoing, cheerful and wilful. A free spirit. Which isn’t in and of itself a reason for her not to lead. But her tendency for getting into mischief, breaking things, insulting visitors accidentally and generally making a nuisance of herself goes a long way in proving how bad she’d be as leader. Truly. She loves to explore, loves her freedom to run off and come back later covered in scrapes and mud and dragging some swampy creature with her (and that one time she brought Chevron home with her). Her proclivity for theft from other clans in the region notwithstanding, she was quite a handful as a child. Inerri decided early on that keeping an eye on her slippery ward was an effort in futility. But she has such a delightful smile and a charming personality and in spite of the fact that she’s stolen shiny things from pretty much everyone else in the lair, somehow she’s still likeable. Nobody seems able to resist her for long. Even her father – with his stony expression and quiet demeanour – is easily wrapped around her little claw. Which… perhaps that is something she learned from Venin. Unlike her father, though, she likes to meddle. Probably not good for friendships, really, but nothing has backfired too badly so far. (Except maybe her teasing encouragement for Callana’s relationship with Tarryn. That resulted in her being unceremoniously named Anthelion’s aunt and she’s not so pleased about that. Or that Blacklight keeps laughingly reminding her of it.) Even as a child she wanted to explore, it’s what made her so hard to keep track of. Now that she’s grown, she pays even less attention to her parents’ pleas that she be careful and often goes haring off with Chevron or Tahvi, Xhinhai or Kairos. They all offer her chances to stumble upon adventure, to steal things, to get into fights with… well anything really. When she was younger, she was only allowed out with Callana and Tarryn, and she still sometimes hangs out with them. But Sorneith is wide and Bereave enjoys options. Impulsive and wild, Bereave was never meant to be kept in place, or moulded into some position of responsibility. Venin's patience paid off, though, and Kieri makes an excellent replacement leader. For her part, Bereave loves her; always wanted a little sister, and does her very best to tempt Kieri into 'doing something fun'. For whatever reason, Bereave is thoroughly relieved that Kieri joined the clan as leader. It's almost as if she thought there was a chance she'd be named heir anyway. ❁ OTHER
