S K Y L A R K
Marsh & Skylark both arrived at the Dragonfly Clan on the same day. Having wandered Sornieth for many months alone, they had both become wander-weary and a bit lonely. Being a Gen One can be isolating enough, having no parents or siblings to share life’s experiences with, but being a Gen One without a mate or home to call one’s own had made it even more so.
The Dragonfly Clan was exactly what Skylark was looking for. She immediately felt at home and enjoyed regaling her tales of adventure, especially to the youngest members of the clan. Skylark was an active, bubbly, talkative spiral who has a talent for storytelling. It was not unusual for her eloquent and lively way of describing her escapades to draw a large audience and that is exactly what was going on the first time she saw Marsh.
He was watching from the edge of the crowd when he caught her eye. His intent gaze was piercing and she knew right then and there that she wanted to get to know this sullen-looking nocturne better and try to coax him out of his shell. She carried on with her story, with slightly more intensity than usual. Marsh, as she suspected, stayed until the end and waited for every last dragon to go on their way before approaching her.
Skylark was not daunted by Marsh’s seemingly harsh attitude, for she realized that they had both been wanderers for a very long time. It wasn’t long before Marsh and Skylark could be seen together at all hours of the day and over time Marsh began to loosen up. It was no surprise to the Dragonfly Clan when the two lovebirds made public their intention to establish a bond and declared themselves life-mates.
One night, during the incubation period of their first nest, Marsh and Skylark reminisced about the months they spent alone, searching for a home and family they weren’t sure they would ever find. They confided in each other the fears they had experienced of being alone for all eternity, of never finding a place where they belonged or a mate to share their life with. Now, having found the Dragonfly Clan and begun their lineage of descendants, they made a vow to each other and their unhatched generations to come that they would perpetuate their ancestry and maintain their family tree.
One dragon from each clutch born into Marsh & Skylark’s heritage will be found a suitable mate and bred before being sent off to find their place in the world, thus ensuring the preservation of their bloodline.
