Lore

Chrysocolla, or simply Chrysa as she prefers, is a quiet, serious-natured dragon. Her domain is the small series of pools in the heart of Snastle's shell, and she makes her way around them with grace that belies her rotund stature. Swathed in rolls of luxuriously fluffy robe, her role is to attend the needs of those using the pools, whatever that may entail. From sitting in company with lone travelers, taking requests for food and beverages, and helping less abled dragons to use the pools, she does whatever is required. She enjoys the work greatly, especially being left to manage on her own by the other clan members. Not that she doesn't get along with them wonderfully, she just tends to be solitary by nature and prefers to be left alone to do her job. The bath-house is popular but small, and her days pass peacefully by the calming pools.

She is quite interested in the history of the small bath-house and its pivotal role in forming Clan Snastle, and is only too happy to share the tale with visitors.

History of Clan Snastle

The pools themselves are an architectural feat that Snastle is quite proud of. It was inspired by the Cottontail Bath-house in Dragonhome, former home of many of Snastle's clan. Clan Cottontail's members were digging deeper into the cave system to explore for more of the thermal springs that were their clan's greatest resource, when they hit the cavern in which Snastle had buried herself centuries ago, hibernating to escape the conflicts of the era. Unfortunately for Clan Cottontail, the process of Snastle extricating herself from the earth utterly destroyed their entire cave and just about everything it contained. Due to a good earthquake evacuation plan no lives were lost, but the clan was destroyed.

Once she learned of her destruction, Snastle offered her own shell as recompense. Her kind had lived symbiotically with other creatures long ago, and the idea was natural to her. Some of the clan took her up on the offer, including Peony, leader of the Cottontail Clan, who stepped down from her role upon joining her, leaving the clan as a leaderless group of dragons. Snastle put extra care into helping to design and create the bath-house as a tribute to the one she had turned to dust. Nomadic life in the shell of a giant snail didn't suit all the clan members, and over time many of them left for other clans.

However, the conditions of her shell suited other dragons perfectly, and the bath-house turned out to be an unexpected blessing. Snappers, nomadic by nature but unable to fly, found life traveling around in her shell incredibly satisfying. By a twist of fate, the Snappers of the Cottontail Clan were known as Geodes, dragons permeated by chronic Gembond - a rocky protrusion that requires constant maintenance lest it overgrow and weigh the sufferer down too much to function.

Snastle and her kind are very well acquainted with rock, as they eat and produce vast quantities of it. Her huge shell is made of solid stone, a strong calciferous concoction which starts out as a special kind of slime she can produce at will, and in past times had been used to create awe inspiring architectural works. Despite being incredibly strong, the stone can easily be etched away by a different type of slime - an acidic brew which allows portions to be deconstructed, shaped and repaired as she pleases.

The giant snails had long lived in symbiosis with other creatures. They could easily form their own shells into natural shapes, but it took the manual cooperation of others to form the exquisite spires, castles, bridges and patterns for which they took pride.
In the early days of construction, several of the Geode Snappers were helping to form her shell into the towering castle it would become. Hauling a bucket of corrosive slime, a helpful young lady named Celestine tripped, spilling it down her forelegs. After a panicked few minutes of scrambling outside, Snastle sprayed her dragon down with water from her internal stores. However, as the viscous slime dripped away, so did much of the Gembond!

The concoction was far too strong to be used as it was - Celestine acquired a nasty set of blistering chemical burns which thankfully healed with barely a scar - but after much fiddling about and testing, it was found that a diluted mixture of the slime would help to weaken Gembond, allowing it to be chipped or chiselled away much easier and less painfully, a blessing for a condition requiring constant maintenance.
Thus, the bath-house came to be a hotspot for Gembond treatment, and many of the Geodes stayed on in their perfectly suited home. Others joined them over time and Clan Snastle was formed.
