"Ever since the beginning of time, there has stood a rock in the middle of The Shifting Expanse. It was a great, towering rock that emanated some strange energy, striking awe and fear into all that saw it. The talented scientists of Lightning declared the rock to be made of the same material as Gembond, the lustrous gems that decorated some lucky (or unlucky, depending on how one looks at it) dragons. This only filled the dragons of Lightning with even more curiosity, for where else has this phenomena been seen other than on living, breathing, dragons? But one day, the great rock began to, quiver, then shake, then crack, revealing a Snapper of most magnificent-"

Okay, that's not exactly how it happened, but that's certainly how Chalcedony tells of his time encased in the stone that made him a Geode.
A large, good-natured old Snapper with a flair for drama, Chalcedony can definitely be said to be the best storyteller in the Clan, though perhaps not the most truthful one. With him, even the smallest of incidents can turn into epic length adventures complete with a damsel in distress and the obligatory proud, dashing hero to save her.

Born in the land of Lightning, Chalcedony stuck out sorely against the coldly logical and scientifically minded dragons around him. Always the odd one, he was more likely to be found lounging in the background regaling his workmates with tales of dubious origin, rather than working as he was supposed to be.

"But you're a Lightning dragon." They'd say, giving him a curious look as though he were some new experiment. "You want to change the world, make it adapt to your wishes, find out what makes it tick, right?" It was never long before they turned back to their work, exasperated, any interest gone.
Chelcedony always did want to change the world, but with fun and grand adventure, not test tubes and copper wires.

Nevertheless, Chalcedony has always been confident and brave individual, determined to find a place in this world to call his own. When he heard of Amethyst, another dragon who had survived being completely consumed by Gembond, he head out in search of her, sure that there would be drama and mystery to turn into ballad and story. After spending some time in the clan getting to know her, he started to find that all the dragons had their own interesting tales to share, and his visit lengthened as he documented (and embellished) them.

Time kept passing by, and Chalcedony never had the heart to leave. There was surely nothing interesting for him back home. He had become a treasured member of the clan, especially among the hatchlings. There are always at least one or two of them hanging around him, chattering happily and pestering for another story. While he tries to act gruff and mysterious, he really does adore them, and though he'll never admit it, they are the true reason he chose to stay forever.
This means, of course, that he's always the prime choice to regale the hatchlings with bedtime stories, and his happy endings can send even the anxious little Awwberry off into pleasant dreams.

He also loves spending time with Foxglove, a former bard of the clan whom he frequently travels to visit in her new clan. The two spend many hours together composing songs and ballads, and he has come to look upon the little blind spiral as a daughter. Over time, he even found love, and he and his mate Tourmaline are seen as the grandparents of the clan.

Chalcedony is a performer, a true entertainer at heart. And without him knowing it, he's already slowly begun to change the world around him, one grand tale and awestruck hatchling at a time.
