Gale's Thoughts: Kona
Kona is significantly more tolerable than her mate.
She's made a stronger effort to integrate into the clan (No one enjoys swindling their clanmates out of their pocket change more than her; card games with Kona are serious business), she's an interesting dragon to talk to, and she's actually not too shabby at acting like she cares about some of us.
But there's the key word: acting.
Kona is the most accomplished liar I've ever met, and far and away the best illusionist. Mika may have the silver tongue and the ability to use more than one element, but Kona has mastered the shadows and the subtle practices of the world.
I was never scared of things that weren't there before I met Kona.
She's taught me that the mind can be as dangerous a place as the actual world.
I think Mika needs her more than I ever realized, and not just for their work. I think she keeps him sane. I think she's the only thing that keeps him happy. In their world full of illusions and magic and lies, she is the one real thing he can hold on to. The only times they are their true selves are the moments they spend together with nothing in the way.
Kona's attachment to the clan keeps her from falling too far into her lies. Mika keeps her from falling too far into herself.
