Biography

HERON PIRATE | BLACKSMITH Heron originally came from a family of blacksmiths renown the world over for their skill. However, try as he might, Heron was never quite able to live up to his family's reputation. While he worked hard and could be considered a master blacksmith in any other setting, his work could not compare to the work of his family. His family was under the service of a high-ranking noble family in the Ashfall Wastes. Despite their talents they fell out of favor in this family's eyes. In an attempt to appease them but unwilling to risk their more valuable members, Heron was sent to work for them as a slave. There he learned how volatile this noble family was. He witnessed and personally experienced the cruelty the family was capable of inflicting on those they viewed as lesser to themselves. Eventually, unsatisfied with his work compared to the work of his family, he was sold to another noble family who were eager to get their hands on a blacksmith from such a famous family. But they were soon disappointed to see that his work did not live up to the family's reputation. On and on he was passed to different clans eager to acquire the family's talent but ultimately disappointed with his results. At his final prison, he worked with another blacksmith concerned for his daughter's safety working as a maid in the household they served. With nothing to lose Heron came up with a plan to act as a distraction while the two escaped. The two were able to make contact with Indigo and her crew who had been planning on ambushing the place to free the slaves. With their help she was able to lead a charge against the captors before they could execute Heron for helping the father and daughter escape. Finally free, Heron did not know what to do with himself. His family had made it clear they did not value him, and years of being degraded and belittled had ruined his confidence in his skill as a blacksmith. With no other place to go, Heron joined Indigo's crew. He had a hard time fitting into the crew at first, years of hardship had made him bitter and distrustful. However, over time he witnessed the good that Indigo and her crew did for others like him. She rescued prisoners and slaves, returned them to their families, and found new homes for those who had lost theirs. Later, given the option to find a new home or to remain with the crew, Heron chose the latter. Now given the chance to heal, Heron began to work as a smith again. He repairs damaged weapons, forges new ones, and continues to grow in his talent, far more than he ever did with his family. He travels aboard the Ghost helping to free others who were in his position. And while he presents a gruff and disinterested front most of the time, not far down he is happy to help those in need. |
