She held the glittering gem in the light. It refracted the light in a spectacular fashion, throwing rainbow colors across the floor, the ceiling, and the walls. Smiling to herself, Corno set it gently on the cloth on the work table in front of her. It was a wonderful find when she went to the market this morning. It was priced expensively, but she knew how to use her charms to lower it to a more reasonable price. She threw back her mane in pride as she recalled the memory of the traveling Earth dragon she encountered at the town's market. Most dragons were quite proud of their craftsmanship and work, and this one was no exception. Corno used flattery to warm up to him...and her beauty to convince him to ask her to stay awhile longer as he shared the stories of his wares. Too bad the Guardian was still dusty with dirt clinging to his clothing and scales - he would've been far more attractive to flirt with otherwise. Corno looked like a glittering gem herself, with crystalized scales and wings. Perhaps that is why she was so drawn to her craft of a jeweler. It was far easier to appreciate beautiful metals, gems, and stones that mimicked herself as well as catch the eyes and the fascination of those that looked upon them. The gently scratching claws along the wooden leg of her work desk drew her mind away from her memory and into the shining eyes of her familiar, a light goblin named Sparkle. Sparkle had a superb knack in finding the best gems and stones wherever she went. The goblin could also do more intricate metalwork than Corno due to Sparkle's smaller claws. Sparkle and Corno made a great team in the workshop, producing best jewelry on the whole island. They also had the same fine tastes in what adorned them, keeping the finest pieces to decorate their bodies. Corno drew her wing next to the goblin, who hopped on, and she helped her to the desk. Sparkle immediately went to the pile of gems and stones on the soft cloth, holding up the gem that Corno put down just a moment before. "You always seem to know when something amazing pops up in this workshop, Sparkle," spoke the Imp fondly to her companion, "What do you think we should do with it? A fine ring for a Guardian? A pendant for a Fae?" The goblin paused in thought, turning the gem in the sunlight. With a quick jerk, Sparkle darted towards the window, jewelry gently tinkling as she went, which filled with incomplete pieces that they were working on for the past few weeks. Holding up a crown about half her size, made of rose gold that looked like intertwined vines, she held the stone up on the center hole that seemed to be made for the stone's size. Since the stone was a rich shade of red, it looked like a rose jutting its face through the richly colored leaves. "I love it!!!" Corno exclaimed, clapping her hands together in glee. It provoked a large smile from the goblin. "Let's get to work then," Sparkle chimed, and they began to excitedly, but gingerly, set the stone into the crown. |
