Life is short, though I keep this from my children. Life is short, and I’ve shortened mine in a thousand delicious, ill-advised ways, a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways I’ll keep from my children. The world is at least fifty percent terrible, and that’s a conservative estimate, though I keep this from my children. For every bird there is a stone thrown at a bird. For every loved child, a child broken, bagged, sunk in a lake. Life is short and the world is at least half terrible, and for every kind stranger, there is one who would break you, though I keep this from my children. I am trying to sell them the world. Tale Not that much longer, Juno chants to herself, as she corrects someone's spelling. Not that much longer, she reassures, as she presses her whole tiny weight down on a stapler. Not that much longer, she can't help but hope, as she explains once more why this form has to be completed in triplicate, but this one must be filed in duplicate. No. No, that means three times. Three. Putting her time in as an administrative assistant, Juno enjoys keeping everything neat and tidy. She is principled, organised, and prefers black ink to blue. She's kept busy, buzzing around executing the menial duties required of assistants to regional politicians, and all around is the sort of dragon without whom polite society would face instant collapse. Once she's put her time in under Thane Iseult - who is serving out the Shire's surreal and nonsensical seven and a three-quarters-of-a year term - she's looking forward to a job in project or archival management. Or maybe just a holiday. Traits Juno is coffee-addicted, needs glasses and probably also a three-week nap. Her heartwood is the golden hop; fast growing, and with a little effort something that could also do with cutting loose and letting one's hair down. |
