Biography

Elliry
Summoner
Chaotic Neutral

Fae have it rough. Other dragons are so much bigger and stronger than they are. A fae could easily be snuffed out with a single flick of an imperial's claw. Of course, that assumes the imperial even notices them in the first place. It can take an hour of yelling for a fae to get one of those behemoths to notice them. Some fae might have the magic to make up for that, but the rest have to live in a world designed for creatures far larger than they are.

But Elliry wouldn't have to for any longer, or at least not while he had a say in it. If he was lesser to the other dragons, then he'd call upon a power greater than them. Creatures from beyond this plane, aberrations with might the likes Sornieth has never seen before! He could see the plans in his mind: a gauntlet that could tear through the very fabric of reality, opening a portal from which demons and other monsters would spill forth to serve him.

Unfortunately, that wasn't something he was going to be able to do in the Shifting Expanse. While he could build most of the gauntlet himself, Elliry would need the reality-warping magic of an arcane dragon to complete it. So Elliry left his home, and began a long journey across Sornieth.

It turns out that said journey was far more difficult than finding an arcane dragon willing to help him. Many arcane dragons are more than happy to mess with the laws of the universe, and so Elliry was the one being persuaded to let them help, and not the other way around. And help they did! After a few weeks, they came up with a set of clawrings and bracelets, that while not quite the gauntlet Elliry had envisioned, were still quite capable of serving the same purpose. There was only one catch...

In order to summon a creature from another plane, they would need to have some way to attract it. Elliry and his new friends spent a few days discussing their options, from throwing food through a dimensional rift to building a big grabby hand that they could use to pull one out. But in the end, they all agreed on one thing: they would need to use some part of Elliry to ensure that the interdimensional creature knew he was its master and didn't try to kill him. Learning that gave Elliry pause for a moment. Then it stunned him for a few more once he fully realized what the other dragons were suggesting. After a few hours going through every one of the hundred stages of flabbergasting, Elliry agreed with them. He'd go through with the sacrifice.

And so, Elliry gave up his voice. The arcane dragons painfully tore it from his body, and stored it in one of the many jewels that he wears. No longer could he speak in our world — instead his voice would be projected though the rifts he opened, audible only to beings from those unknown realms. If Elliry had any immediate regrets... well, obviously he didn't speak them. Instead, he reached out his left claw, and called out towards the creatures of the unknown.

What Elliry contacted that day, nobody knows. But there's no doubt that he found something. A presence follows him wherever he goes, and while nobody can see it, those who have a strong enough connection to Sornieth's magic can sense it. And whatever it is, it's huge. Perhaps it's truly invisible, or maybe only the smallest fraction of it exists in this world, and Elliry only pulls the rest of it through when he needs to. Whatever the case, Elliry got his wish — not even the strongest imperial wants to get on his bad side and find out what he's now capable of.

It took him a bit, but Elliry eventually got used to being voiceless. Communicating via complex claw and frill gestures wasn't too much of a challenge, except for the small tears in reality his left hand made every time he moved it too fast. (With enough practice, he got that problem sorted out.) As an interesting side effect of this, Elliry's friends with a lot more coatls than the average fae. After all, they wouldn't have been able to understand his monotone voice back when he still had it.
