Gypsum

Gypsum is one of the eldest and most respected members of the clan. He helped Zumurrud and Dharithri form it, and, when they had to travel away for unknown reasons and for an unknown amount of time, he agreed to remain and protect it. He has never officially claimed himself a leader, as he doesn't believe he deserves that honor, but that doesn't stop just about everyone from turning to him for advice.


When he was younger he was a fighter, stronger than many, but he tired of that life overtime, stepping back from it to pursue other interests, like alchemy and strategy.


He has often fought to defend his clan, on one occasion nearly dying due to the severity of his injuries. Nahele saved him then, first by distracting an enemy who had tried to blind him when he was weak from many other injuries, then by bandaging him and caring for him [along with Zedong] while he slowly recovered. They're good friends.

He adores all of his children and grandchildren, but never holds them, or anyone, back from their choices. Three of his partners came to him for advice after hearing the calling of the Gladekeeper, and he counseled them as best he could, which resulted in them accepting their newfound fate with hope in their hearts. He has seen many of his children be called, journey to other clans, and even pass, but he never closes his heart. He supports them in all their pursuits, even when he worries for them. His granddaughter, RainandSnow, has followed in his footsteps, and is training to become a great warrior, while his son, Muscovite, enjoys magic more than physical fighting. Pembe has shown no desire to fight, but trains to keep herself strong. She, like him, is pursuing other interests, though hers are more along the line of exploration.

He has worked with those of his clan in training, as he knows Dharithri would like, though he does tire of seeing young ones hurt, no matter how small the hurts are.

He hopes that Zumurrud and Dharithri will return soon; he would much rather spend his time practicing alchemy, caring for the hatchlings, and being an ear for others woes rather than spending any more time fighting.


Gypsum, when the clan was first formed, was quite taken with Zumurrud, and, when Dharithri appeared, he found himself quite torn between them, as he cared deeply for them both, and could see himself loving them both. When they took each other as mates it hurt deeply, but they were happy, so he was happy.

Lately it's been hard for him to enjoy life in the clan; partly because he has little to do, but mostly because Zumurrud and Dharithri are gone. Even though they chose each other just being near them both meant a great deal to him, and it pains him to think of how long they've been away on their quest. He hopes that they'll return soon, both so he can have his dear friends returned to him, and because he misses the shortish trips that HE used to go on before they left him to care for the clan.

All thoughts of travel and indeed his own life were put on hold when he received the news that Muscovite, his last remaining son (he had grandchildren, yes, but it's different), had taken a fatal blow, and was asking for him. He went to him immediately, and stayed beside him until he passed away. He mourned him for many years, and continues to mourn for him even now, though Zumurrud and Dharithri's return, or rather their eventual counseling and unconditional love, helped him move on to a more stable emotional state.
