In the far side of the clearing, a small guardian stepped forward, rushing her way towards the small gathering.
"Mother? What's going on?" She croaked, though her expression betrayed that she already knew. Bright Scale visibly flinched, turning to Fire.
"Fire... I had meant to tell you, but I couldn't find you. Where have you been?" Fire narrowed her eyes.
"Don't try to change the subject! You're sending them to serve the Arcanist, but I wasn't going to be among them, was I? She glared, lashing her tail. Bright looked to the side. Bright opened her maw to speak but choked on her words. "I guess I just didn't make the 'cut', did I?" Fire spat, her eyes ablaze as she turned away from the scene, clawing her way along the chalcedony.
Fire began to pick up speed as she went, eventually breaking into a sprint as the small guardian scrambled over the rock.
