Thayn remembers fire. He remembers smoke and raining ash and silence. The Orphanage, the worst place in his childhood, will forever remain a stain in his past. He doesn't care how he ended up there, doesn't particularly want to find his parents and demand what happened (at least not anymore). The only good thing that ever came from that place was teaching him that he could trust no one in this world at face value. That and Silabus. Along side the Tundra, they endured their stay in the orphanage, licking each other's wound when it was clear the older dragons that ran the place didn't care. For awhile, it was tolerable. Being with Silabus helped keep the undercurrent of rage at bay. If he focused on keeping Silabus well and healthy, as much as he could considering their environment, then it was well worth the abuse he endured. |
Until they day he found Silabus left bleeding and unconscious.
There were deep claw marks across his thin body, bruises that were turning purple and green, patches of bald spots where his fur was torn off. Thayn didn't have to guess who did it and he really didn't have to look for as to why it happened. Three, much younger hatchlings than Thayn were crowded around Silabus, scared beyond their wits.
Thayn grabbed Silabus, taking him to their secret room, the three hatchlings following him. For three days, he took care of Silabus, never leaving his side longer than he had to. And when Silabus finally did wake up, he cried.

It wasn't long after that incident that a Skydancer rescued them by mercilessly slaughtering the dragons who ran the sham of an orphanage. She gently spoke to them afterwards, offering her protection. And while he was thankful she killed the other dragons, he still remained cautious of her. It was Silabus who convinced him to trust her and he was quickly learning that he couldn't really say no to Silabus. When Thayn became of age, he didn't have to go search for his charge. His charge had been along side him all along; Silabus. It didn't hurt that Silabus was also his mate. While Silabus settled into the new found clan they lived in with the Skydancer who rescued them, Thayn sought mentorship from the other Guardian in the Clan, Dawn. Her charge happened to be a Tundra as well and from what he had gathered over the months they lived together, it was hard and almost fatal search. He wanted to learn how better to protect Silabus, protect the things Silabus loved, and to make sure no more harm would fall on him. |
