ABOUT
Chriton is serious and no-nonsense. He has sworn his life to protecting those around him, and in this he is loyal and dutiful beyond measure. Though he can often come off as overly serious or even cold, he cares a great deal for his family and the citizens of Theodora.
Chriton’s hard exterior hides a gentleness and kindness. He can be thoughtful and quiet, even shy. He reserves a special softness for his family. His sense of humor is dry and sometimes hard to detect, but it’s there nonetheless. He enjoys banter back-and-forth with his brother — especially teasing him about their height difference. He has little patience for beating around the bush, and he can tend to be bluntly honest and straightforward. With the exception of with the press, he sees little reason not to be. PAST
He was born to Killian and Attica Cortona, the youngest of three sons -- Elias and Theodore Silas. Shortly after he was born, they moved to Shimmerglade in the Viridian Labyrinth.
When he was only two, a terrible sickness, later known as the Red Influenza, tore through Shimmerglade and the surrounding areas. Among its victims were Attica and Elias. Consumed by grief, Killian abandoned them to Attica’s younger cousin, Basil Harkem. Though young and unmarried, and suffering the recent loss of both parents and his sister, Basil took them in and cared for them. He often struggled to attend to their emotional needs, but they bonded to him nevertheless. Basil became nearly the only father he ever knew. Chriton was especially close with his brother Silas, who he greatly looked up to. As he grew older, he became resentful of Killian. He was angry, and prone to starting and becoming involved in fights. He was hungry for justice, in one manner or another. He often started fights defending other children, or stopping vandals or shoplifters. Concerned for his health and seeking a way for Chriton to channel his anger, Basil enrolled him in fencing classes. Chriton took to the lessons quickly. They worked, at least partly, as Basil had hoped -- though Chriton was still prone to fighting, he did so less frequently and intensely. Learning fencing, however, did nothing to quell his desire for justice. At sixteen, he enrolled in guards’ training, and at twenty, he was a full-fledged guard. During training, he befriended Meredith Etanon and James Calison, three and thirteen years his senior, respectively. He found an older-sister figure in Meredith, and a mentor in James. Once in the guard, he climbed the ranks quickly. He was ambitious and dedicated, though still struggled with his anger. He made detective in six years, and from there, continued to climb. When he was twenty-two, Meredith introduced him to her younger sister Cordelia at James Calison’s inauguration as Guard Captain. He was entranced by Cordelia, the way she talked, the way she moved, the way she smiled. They became fast friends. He was often quiet when they were together, content to follow her around and listen. As they grew closer, he grew more open and talkative. He smiled most often around her. She lit up his world in a way no one had before. Seeing how happy she made him, Silas encouraged him to pursue her further. Chriton proposed two years after they first met, swearing to protect and love her and all their future children for the rest of his life. She accepted without hesitation, and they married a few months later. Privately, Chriton promised himself he would be a better husband and father than his birth father had ever been. His daughter Attica was born a year later. With her birth, Chriton’s whole world changed. The sight of her made him feel both like the strongest person in the world, and the weakest. She was so small, and so fragile… she made him feel as if he would burst with how much he loved her. He wanted to protect her, no matter the cost. Chriton continued climbing the ranks. He kept working closely with Meredith and James. Eventually, he rose to head the investigative division. James grew ill suddenly in his late forties. Within only a few months, he was unable to complete his duties, and passed away. Chriton put himself forth as a candidate, despite being much younger than the others. His campaign turned out surprisingly successful, and he was inaugurated at the age of thirty-eight. After his inauguration, he returned to wielding the sword as his primary weapon, after many years of wielding the guard-standard spear. | xxxxxxx |
