Passed from orphanage to broke orphanage, his heart hardened against his caregivers who cared little for him. His only solace was imagining the day when he was no longer a hatchling, and could go out and find love for himself. Not parents, he'd long since given up on finding them. He had given up on fantasy. What he wanted, more than anything, was to find love of his own. A wife, or a husband, a mate to call his own. He did find a dragon once free of the system, a lovely noble woman whose kindness rivaled the nurturing of the Gladekeeper. But she was nobility, and her brideprice was thousands of gems from his grasp. He took up thievery in order to raise money for her brideprice, and joined Orlaith's thief guild. He was found out when attending the party at which he would give the gems to her father. His crests were removed as punishment by his boss, Orlaith, and the dragon he loved was sold to another. He still pines after love lost, but she does not even recognize him with his injuries. She believes him to be dead. Jasper was left alone, disfigured and all but mute, and still desperately wishing that someone out there loved him. He does not know she bore his children. Personality xxxJasper is nonverbal due to his injuries. Quiet and bitter and lonely, Jasper makes enough for the guild to keep him, but no more, preferring to spend his days cooped up in the library or in the guild, or even in bars. He spends time with courtesans, chasing the love he craves but getting nothing but loneliness from their services. He only speaks, through paper, to Cendre. The two of them take comfort in their similar injuries, but he knows Cendre only has eyes for Leif. And so, Jasper, quiet Jasper, quietly withdraws a little more each day. He resents his job but cannot get another, he cannot speak, and believes that no one will love him with his mute mouth and dark past. If he were to find love, however, he would absolutely worship that person. He lives for the small spots of love, a wing draped around him, a kind word, so treating him kindly will go far. He is most fond of hatchlings, who care not about his injuries. |
