You should forever be who you were born as. Ovliir's clan complied with this inviolable rule, and never saw breeds as equals to each other. Changing yourself was considering unnatural and illegal, worse than any betrayal or sin. But she, as a born Coatl, never doubted this. Until one day, everything went downhill.
Ovliir, little Coatl lady, at the top of the hierarchy, was loved by all. Growing up in comfort, knowing no evil, cold, or hunger, she was spoiled with attention and gifts. Kind, bright, always smiling, enjoying stories about deities and chivalry, flying freely and being a little bit selfish due to her status, Ovliir was bound to be the future matriach. That, until her unusual talent was discovered - she could sing. Her voice was just as high-pitched as of any Coatl, but pleasant and sweet. And, even though no one could explain how it worked, her voice had magic in it - whether it was her casting intricate spells unconsciously, or that voice itself held strong emotions - but it could heal. Rumors spread fast, and soon even allied clans heard of her: she was now respected and worshipped, and she enjoyed each second of it. Singing was Ovliir's passion, and she was bathing in attention in love, especially during elemental Festivals, when warriors were extolling their deities in battles. She was singing for them until the moon was up, curing their wounds and soothing their tired souls, and warriors adored her, as her songs were not only full of magic, but of life and joy. However, this was bound to change. One of the warriors, young and passionate Mirror, dared to cross the border and fell for her: she was easy to fall for, of course, but that was a taboo no Mirror could break. However, confident and brash, he tried to sing with her, even though his voice was nothing but ordinary. He was hushed immediately, but Ovliir noticed him, and his daring nature moved her. After that, they were talking and dancing together each Festival, forming an ethereal and forbidden bond. Sadly, Ovliir herself saw him only as a dear friend - she was too young and selfish to love someone but herself, especially if that someone was a mere Mirror. So when he confessed, she only laughed at him, saying that they could never be. She knew her own value and maybe even overstated it, and had no desire to demolish own bright future. Not with someone like him. But he was dense and straightforward warrior - if not a Mirror, he could change. Change, and become equal to her. Commiting an appalling crime, he turned himself into someone he never was, into someone who looked exactly like Ovliir. Now considered a traitor, he was rejected again - Ovliir was not going to trade her life, beautiful as a fairytale, for an endless chase which awaited him. He was crushed by her words, and Ovliir never saw him again. Word is, he was executed.
Her life started to change the very next day. His change was a sin which couldn't be ignored, and Ovliir turned out to be the one to blame. The tattle was, she induced him to do it, as he had a soft spot for her. It wasn't true, but it couldn't be proven, either. Attitude shifted as allied clans were no longer coming to listen to her songs. No more gifts, no more praises, and then, explicit hostility. Gradually Ovliir became a figure which had to perform her role even though no one wanted her to. Her voice started to fade, just like her heart, as Ovliir felt own emotions treading her, blaming herself for what she didn't commit. Her songs were no longer healing, and she was forced to fulfill her original purpose - to be trained by the clan matriarch. She was not suited for this - studies felt dull and immaterial, and Ovliir herself, once a free and joyous spirit, was caged by new rules, seeing those as personal resentment, as something that was never meant to happen to her. And it broke her: each day she was following the orders, and each night she was escaping to the Ruins to sing silent songs, full of grief and sorrow. Just a shadow of herself, realizing how hard it is to keep own identity intact, understanding the sacrifice her Mirror made, Ovliir was dwelling on it, and her mentality started to twist. Unable to change anything, she was feeling even more despared, and her harrowing songs were now chasing living creatures away, making herbs wilt. Her plumage started turning white - it was a sign of her mental alienation, but to a Coatl, it meant the end. She could lose that little she had now - warm lair and at least some future. Unable to bear her inevitable fate, she fled.
That was when the Project located her. Ovliir, weak and ready to accept anything, was promised to be freed of her grief, to start her life anew and even to regain her voice again - but as someone she never was. As a Pearlcatcher, she would be able to seal her past into her pearl. To Ovliir, it meant breaking the most important rule, but she didn't care - she wished to be accepted once again, even if as a mere dweller, just to lead calm and peaceful life she lost. The process of changing was agonizing - Ovliir found it hard to leave herself behind. She hoped this was just a bad dream, some dire misunderstanding, but it was not. For her, it was an atonement for what happened to her Mirror. Once she accepted this, everything was over. She felt lighter, she felt strange, she was clutching at her pearl - and she was no longer the Ovliir she remembered. Her voice changed, too - it sounded different now, and she couldn't tell if it was beautiful anymore. She could sing, but what was the point? While she gave her voice up, Resistance did not. They heard of her story. What was this phenomenon? Was this magic coming from her inner energy? If they only knew, she could be their trump card. They were eager to research the magic of her voice, which apparently had different effects based on her perception. Telling Ovliir about the Project's actual goal was risky, but it paid off - learning the truth, she felt all kinds of emotions boiling inside of her: rage, fairness, urge to help. Even if she commited this crime of changing herself, sacrificing a whole flight of Pearlcatchers for Lightweaver knows what was impermissible. Ovliir knew she had to stop this, and she started to acquaint herself with things she never tried before - martial arts, tactics, espionage, but most of all, her voice, which could be as belligerent as a sharpest blade. Sadness started to melt. Nothing could fill the hole in her heart, but at least, it became bearable.

Voice sample! This baby is super special. First of all, she was a Coatl! But mainly, she was an RP character of precious @JackieHinny, and her story was her heritage. I will always be grateful for being able to develop Ovliir's lore - and I only wish all the best for her.
