As a hatchling Sigurrós was told he was ugly. Ugly by all standards dragons had. His colors weren’t desirable by anyone and the best he could hope for was that some clan would want him to train him for war. He was reminded every day that no one would want him, that even his parents thought he would never be anything but an Exalted sent out to fight for a deity. Not even guaranteed the Windsinger but any deity who would take him. So he ran away. Before he was even fully grown Sigurrós ran from home without a word to anyone. He didn’t know where he was going, or what he was looking for, all he knew was that he couldn’t stay there anymore. He couldn’t live in a clan who only told him he was a failure, a reject, because he wasn’t born ‘pretty enough’ to earn a high dowry to another clan. Eventually this led him to the edge of the Sea. There he found a ship that said it was going to some strange city out there where even ugly things like Sigurrós would be accepted. Seeing it as no other option Sigurrós scrounged up some treasure for passage and left for Mu. He arrived amid the teeming city, lost and alone. But he was not the ugliest there. There were dragons of every color in Mu. It didn’t matter that they were undesirable, they were there, and they lived. The words his birth clan had told him weighed heavily on him though. Sigurrós has no confidence and speaks softly, hardly ever speaking up for himself. It made it difficult for him to find a place in Mu and eventually he just turned to the Caravan to continue to survive. Nadalin was sympathetic to him and allowed him to join her clan. Once part of the Caravan he thought he’d find peace and acceptance with himself, since Nadalin did not want him to be trained as a soldier to fight for the Tidelord. She just wanted him to be happy. He did not find that acceptance and didn’t know what to do. Then Rhodon came into his life. The eccentric Wildclaw was looking for an assistant with his flower shop after the last one quit because Rhodon was too weird for them. Sigurrós tentatively applied for the position and Rhodon took him on instantly. Little did Sigurrós know that there were no other applicants for Rhodon’s assistant. Sigurrós was taken to the ship Peonia and Rhodon took him under his wing. He taught Sigurrós all about flowers and arranging and how to care for plants of all sorts and how to identify all types of flora. Rhodon didn’t care what Sigurrós looked like, he just cared that Sigurrós could work and would listen to him. Rhodon also knew that Sigurrós had self esteem issues and trouble speaking up for himself and he had no tolerance for any of that. He encouraged and even demanded that Sigurrós speak his mind often and whenever he wanted, even if it was to tell Rhodon he was acting like an idiot. Sigurrós had never been treated like this by another dragon, as if he was actually worth something other than a handful of treasure. He still ended up rather surprised when he ended up crushing, horribly, on Rhodon. He knew Rhodon too well by then though and knew the playboy would never give him the real relationship he wanted. So instead he just pined from a distance. Rhodon was a good teacher though and Sigurrós learned a lot under him about botany and scents. It led him to become an amateur perfumer, which he sells in small vials in Peonia with Rhodon’s elaborate flower arrangements. |
