Chrono
I can hardly believe how small the clan used to be. It's certainly given me more to look after.

LAlthough Wind dragons are known for their cheerful and playful personalities, Chrono was always a serious sort of dragon. As a hatchling, he was quiet, hardly ever yelling for his parents or babbling in baby talk. When he grew older, he was the dependable sibling, the one they could always ask to watch the others and keep them out of trouble, or trust to do something without getting distracted. While his siblings romped and played, he liked to sit quietly, watching everyone who went by. The pride on his young face was always clear when he was entrusted to carry a message or keep watch for an expected visitor.

As he grew older, he began to feel the tug of the Search, a desire to go on a journey and find his own destined Charge. But it worried him. He'd heard that guardians could range far and wide on their searches, all across Sornieth. The Windswept Plateau had always been his home, and he loved it with a deep affection. He had always thought that the most beautiful sight was their cloudless blue sky filled with balloons and kites, or the wind made visible as it whispered through a bamboo grove, making the branches toss and the leaves shiver. He didn't want to leave it.

But the pull of his Search was too strong, No guardian can deny it forever, so off he went. He still didn't want to leave his home region, but, as he traveled up and down it, he realized he didn't have to. Something about it felt right to him. The few times he turned towards the borders, feeling obliged to widen his Search and roam through some other region, it was as though something pulled him back, a little voice whispering in his ear telling him that there was a reason he loved his home so much. It held what he sought, if he could only find it.

To his surprise, he found something entirely different than his Charge first. Although the Windswept Plateau is usually a kind land, it holds dangers the same as any other. As he was flying, surveying the landscape from the air in hopes of seeing signs of his Search's goal from a new viewpoint, he failed to pay enough attention to the air currents. By the time he realized that they had become dangerously rough, it was too late. He'd allowed himself to be pulled into the outskirts of the Twisting Crescendo, that massive whirling vortex which only the most experienced fliers dared. He realized the danger, as it pulled him inexorably inwards, where the winds grew ever faster and more dangerous, and struggled desperately to escape. They said it was calm in the very eye, but he was in danger of being battered to pieces before he reached that safety. No matter how hard he flew, he was unable to escape the vortex, and his strength began to flag.

Just as he was about to falter, he heard a voice, raised over the howling winds. “Don't give up! I'm coming!” Another dragon came into his view, a guardian like him, flying expertly through the tumultuous winds. She grasped his paw and he managed to find one last burst of strength in him. Half leading, half pulling him along, his rescuer navigated the vortex, catching a wild gust and letting it thrust them forward one moment, putting her head down and forcing her way against one that sought to draw them back in the next. And suddenly, there was no more wind to fight, and the two of them shot away from the vortex, still madly flapping as though against its strong winds. They quickly landed, both of them exhausted, and he looked his rescuer in the face for the first time.

Cheyanne boasted no jewel-like colors, and for all her youth she bore rough markings of past battles fought on her hide. But the look of kindness in her eyes, and a fierce willingness to protect those who needed it, made her the most beautiful dragon he had ever seen. He hoped, for a moment, that she was his Charge. But no, she didn't need to be protected against all the world. She needed a partner, and equal who would stand by her side and help her protect those she had chosen to. What he felt for her was something he had never believed in up until now, love at first sight. Looking in her eyes, he thought perhaps she felt the same way.

The two agreed to travel together, to seek the Charges they both sought. As they traveled and grew to know each other better, the shy feelings between them blossomed into a deep love, and a steadfast partnership. Now he had another fear. He loved Cheyanne so deeply that he knew he would never want another mate, but suppose their Charges were incompatible? Or far apart? Would he have to choose between his mate and his Charge?

When the two of them climbed over one last steppe, they found the lair of a clan they had never met before laid out in front of them. Hatchlings laughed and played, watched over indulgently by the adults, familiars frisked around them joining in the games, and a seafoam coated tundra watched over all with undeniable affection and pride. His heart leaped, as he felt a sudden sense of rightness, of connection, that this was something wonderful and precious that he must care for. He had finally found his Charge. To his even greater joy, when he looked at Cheyanne standing beside him, he saw her eyes light up, filled with the same affection and protectiveness he too felt. This clan was to be their Charge, and they would both watch over it and protect it together.

Chrono and Cheyanne have protected the clan ever since. The two of them even are Co-leaders of the clan with Nocti. The three of the work together as leaders to care for and provide for the clan. Chrono is still a fairly serious dragon, who pays careful attention to carrying out his self-appointed tasks and keeping everything running smoothly. He is especially skilled at taking charge of the day to day affairs of the clan, organizing hunting and gathering parties, hatchling baby-sitting rosters, and any other small details. He can be overly cautious at times, but all he wants is to protect his clan and remind them to keep out of danger, even when it bears a pleasant face. Despite all this, Chrono is not quite as serious and sober as he used to be. He has a beloved mate, a wonderful clan, and a worthy Charge to protect. If that's not enough to bring him joy, what is?

We've grown and changed, but that's what a clan is supposed to do, isn't it? And I'll always be here to look after things while it does.
