"Who let the familiars out again!?."

Nature’s Favored Idonea was born deep in the Shrieking Wilds that had a hand in some flight politics and allies with fat pockets in Light’s domain. She grew up with an excellent education, fine foods, and above all other dragons to kiss her ***. Her clan was filled with haughty Pearlcatchers that held a firm grasp on the traditional idea of their breed being simply the best. So it wasn’t a surprise that she grew up thinking the same. Her family also grew up with an alarming prejudice for all things Plague, ever more so for a family in Nature. With such an awful upbringing she grew to think highly of herself, where she was from, and her breed. Only the theft of her pearl would bring her so low later in life. A Pearl Lost By 13 she had taken to walking among “common” clans with her would-be friends taking time to give their narrow minded opinions regardless of anyone actually asking. It was these ramblings that made her lose attention and allow a Ridgeback of no name to come and steal her pearl. Half way through the day did she actually notice it was gone, and her Pearlcatcher friends could only shuffle awkwardly at the situation. Who wanted to be caught with a Pearlcatcher with no pearl? She ran back home to tell her sire about it, but he and his mate only offered the solution of sending her to a shrine for the Gladekeeper; away from them so nobody would find out about this social faux pas. When it seemed this was the only solution, she ran. She’d be damned if she wasn’t going to find her very soul. It was hard during the search. Life was finally revealing it’s ugly head to the sheltered Pearlcatcher and she was distraught and how much she didn’t know. Shelterless nights were spent getting angrier and angrier about everything around her and an empty stomach didn’t help it. Naturally nobody helped an ungrateful and proud beggar when she demanded food and service. Years went by before she gave up on her pearl, already getting used to the idea that nobody wanted her around. It didn’t help that she heard an announcement from her parents in Light’s domain that she was proclaimed dead. She definitely couldn’t go home now. She was angry, flawed, and definitely had much to learn about others. She wouldn’t get this lesson till she found Granny. A Family in Plague Idonea was offered a place in Granny’s caravan in her mid teens. Although the initial offer was met with a prejudice rejection, she finally allowed her guard down long enough to ask for help. Looking at this as a sign of slow progressing humbleness Granny allowed her to work for food and shelter. Idonea proved to have exceptional knowledge of flora and fauna that surpassed many dragons. She made an excellent medic as well as a vet for the familiars in the caravan. She took to her work well enough, trying to stay away from most dragons. She didn’t make many friends in her new clan thanks to her prejudice, especially the dragons from Plague. But after some time life decided to throw another hard ball at her. An allied clan had just found an unusual Mirror hatchling that had an alarming amount of wounds. Of course they sent him to Idonea to heal but during that time the Plagueling had superglued himself to her. This affection, of course, was met with complete and unadulterated anger. The young child would not leave her side for more than two seconds and would wail like a banshee if she was gone. For a good while she hated him, but… nights spent alone in her tent were filled with soft baby coos. And it was a comfort to talk to him about things she couldn’t stand, even if he couldn’t understand her. She grew to love him, even when the hatchling had an alarming history of pain and black magic that seemed to follow him. She’d finally adopted him, and deciding to find the source of his nasty past, had to hire a Wildclaw by the name of Mercutio to guard her when she wandered the Plaguelands. But of course Mercutio was also Plague with a personality to match so they didn’t get along well, throwing verbal barbs at each other during the trip. It was on this trip that something unexpected happened. She opened up to him. It horrified her but he taught her not every dragon fit into that narrow scope she had and she was angry to admit he was right. Long conversations turned into comfort and comfort turned to love. Idonea now had two of Plaguemother’s children to watch and amazingly… she wasn’t disgusted by it. When they got back from their journey Granny was pleased to see Idonea finally cast off her shell. Now Idonea spends her days caring for her little family, trying hard to temper her attitude towards others. And surprisingly? It’s finally all working for the better. |
