Likes: Training, her husband, friendly sparring, swordsmanship, smithing with her husband, order, and punctuality.
Dislikes: The unknown, change, uncertainty, honorless people, braggers, Walkers, Ice flight nobility, and frivolous items such as jewelry etc. Strengths: She's physically fit as a guard should be and has years of experience on her side. She knows her way around the battlefield and is wise in her own right so tricking her is no easy task. She's a cool and level headed fighter, loyal to a fault, and definitely a force to be reckoned with. Weaknesses: It's easy to worry her. She worries about anything and everything and will make mountains out of molehills. She's definitely not someone you want to send on a diplomatic envoy as she's rather short, stand offish, and a bit judgmental. She also can't write well, so a scholar she is not. ྿

"Khalkeus, mind where you swing that molten sword around would you? You'll kill someone."

The Knight Hopeful Epona was born to a nameless clan that had very little standing. Therefor it was a delight to hear that she was to become a knight in her early teen years. She trained under a tutor of a noble family in the Southern Icefields nearly everyday and when she wasn’t training she was earning money for her family. Her work consisted of odd jobs like cleaning and cooking and making sure the fires stayed stoked if a servant wasn’t around to do it. She made fast friends with said servants even though she was always a bit cold and stoic, but considering where she lived it didn’t matter much to her lower caste peers. Nights were spent telling the handmaiden’s children scary stories and mornings were spent exercising her body. It wasn’t long till her efforts were noticed by a noblewoman whom Epona still regards fondly. She was sworn into knighthood and it would seem at that moment that life couldn’t get any better. To Be Captured and Studied If only everything could remain so peaceful. Whether it was bad luck or a conspiracy is uncertain but regardless she was kidnapped in the middle of the night by a mysterious figure. They had no name and raised no alarm when they knocked her out and took her to the Fortress of Ends. She awoke to walls of ice rather than the stone walls of her room. Scarier still was the fact that her limbs were starting to freeze over. The cold was so intense it felt like she was burning in Fire territory. It was a slow and painful process, and as she looked out the frigid bars of her cell she noticed many other prisoners suffering the same fate at different degrees. Wails of agony and shouts of outrage could be heard but the voice that stood out the most was that of a Fire dragon. She was… laughing it would seem. Epona called to her, asking what her name was. Her name, she answered, was Frenir. Frenir was everything Epona was not. She was loud, disrespectful and had a bit of a wild streak. This didn’t stop the Mirror and the Skydancer from becoming fast friends. She told Epona exactly why she was here and who exactly took her. “Walkers.” She’d called them. They belonged to anonymous Ice flight nobles, and if you were of interest you were put here in this prison to freeze solid for their entertainment and study. Epona was horrified but she knew the Fire dragon wasn’t lying, the living ice sculptures had to have gone somewhere. It didn’t scare Frenir though. No She had a plan. The walkers clearly underestimated her potent magical ability, and with that in mind she waited till nightfall to melt the bars of her fellow inmates. Inmates including Epona; who unfortunately had already had permafrost up to her joints. Dragons of all kinds were running or flying for the lives and of course many were only recaptured in the chaos. Epona began cutting down anything that got in her way and thankfully had Frenir’s magic to aid in the slaughter. Stoic defense was met with wild offense as the two bonded in battle. It would be well into the morning before a handful of dragons would make it far enough into the Cloudscrape Crags away from the danger. The dragons hailed the two as heroes before parting ways, trying to get back to their old lives. Frenir and Epona’s parting was bittersweet but they promised to stay safe and in touch. And still to this day they exchange letters and news, much to Epona’s delight. A Dancer and a Smithy By now the horrors of the prisons she had seen made her leave the Southern Icefields, never wishing to see the Icewarden’s snow. Scraping what food she could, she made the long flight across the ocean to the Windswept Plateau deciding to make small work as a mercenary. It was during her mercenary days at the age of 25 that she met Granny. The old woman was in need of guards considering her caravan was growing in size and Epona was more than happy to take the job for it provided food and shelter. Even during these times she still had nightmares about her stay deep in the ice and her limbs only ever seemed to remind her of her would be fate. It would be a long time before those mental scars would heal, and the one who helped the healing process was an Ice dragon of all things. His name was Khalkeus. He was a rather silly smith whom only met her thanks to Granny’s urging. Khalkeus had recently suffered a horrendous burn and much to Epona’s surprise her forever frozen hands were the only thing that ever seemed to ease the wound. They talked for weeks while he healed and before long feelings grew between them. However considering they’re both bumbling idiots the two didn’t understand the other’s feelings until much later through letters. Suddenly there wasn’t as many nightmares anymore, and waking up to the Smith’s face soothed her more than she could ever know. Through Khalkeus did she ever learn that her hands were also useful for cooling metal. This newfound discovery led to some intricate metalwork between the two, so now besides guarding the caravan she can also be seen helping around his forge. The caravan life is a good life and although they make a trip to Southern Icefields once a year it hardly frightens her now. She has family and friends now, and honestly? She couldn’t ask for more. |
