Windracer
The Matriarch
Champion Fighter (LN)
The Matriarch
Champion Fighter (LN)
Windracer is a wind dragon from a faraway land called the Tyrwood. She is old, and strong, but doesn't fight nowadays. She doesn't like it, and doesn't permit her clan to fight within the territory unless it is in training or against some kind of foe, animal or dragon. She rules her clan with a code of peace and understanding.
She can fight, but does not enjoy it. Before she settled in the Steppes she embarked upon a campaign of bloodlust-fueled slaughter across the continent, and regrets it to this day. She seeks to make up for what she did, through her actions and those of her clan. In truth, she cannot forgive herself. She took from the world more than she believes she can ever give back, and she doesn't believe she can judge herself fairly, and believes she will never earn forgiveness for her actions.
It is unclear if that is true.
She also keeps adopting young dragons that end up orphaned in her territory. She considers herself too old to have any more of her own children, but she took Satin under her wing when he arrived in the territory, and Hinterland, raising them both with love and care.
She is a good mother, and has raised many hatchlings to adulthood, both her own and others who found themselves under her wing. All but one, in fact. She still mourns the loss of one egg she had who never hatched; a tragedy that occurs even to the most devoted parents.
Her mate, Helios, adores her, and she treasures him.
You know... I think we've done quite well here for ourselves. |
Yes... yes, I would agree with that. Look at our home. Safe, alive, happy. A refuge, a birthplace, a comfort. It is many things to those who live here, those who have chosen this place... and us. |
As if! I only came here because I saw you as I was passing by. Do not underestimate yourself, my heart. The Wide Sky clan lives because of you. |
I know... I know. And I live for them, now. Not for just myself. For all of them. This is their home, and mine, and I will protect it until the day I die. |

She is the queen of her small realm, the matriarch of her clan, and for her found family she will go to the grave without indecision. Her power is known to them all; she is a beacon of calm, serenity, a piercing light that shines among the green of the Steppes.
Before she came to be a leader and mother, she was an adventurer who journeyed many places and found many things, experienced many things, fought many a battle and saved lives and took them. But even the strongest of warriors tire as time flows ever onwards, and thus was Windracer's doom- she found herself wearying of the life she led and turned away from her blood-filled future, setting aside steel and mail and turning towards a more peaceful path. The Plateau she had encountered before, but it was there she knew she could find the solitude she sought, and so there she went. But she found that she did not desire seclusion. For a time she wandered the grassy Steppes as if in a dream, wandering, dreaming of her faraway home of old and those she had left behind there.
At once she shook her head as if to dispel a mist from her mind, and she turned and viewed the Steppes as if she had not seen them before and decided that it was for her to create a home there. And thus she did, building a lair amongst the bamboo and streams and grass underneath the sunlight and the winds that blew from every direction.
Presently as she was finishing her new home a wanderer was drawn to her; and he was called Helios and saw the strength and serenity within her, and thus he decided to remain upon the Steppes with her. She found him to her liking and it as not but a short while before each chose the other as a mate, the sun and the sky together.
Thus she created the Wide Sky clan, welcoming strangers from oft-visited regions and hidden corners of the world, those that seek her out and those who are carried there on the breath of the wind alike. There are young dragons, new to the world and yet to experience unkindness or violence, and old, those who are weary of the world's troubles and searching for a place to rest, some finally. Many pass through; most remain, though some go onwards to broader skies and new adventures. Windracer follows them not. She is content where she is; she is no warrior now, though should any threaten the safety of her children and her newfound clan she would once again don her armor and fight to the death if need be. She is their leader, and nothing would harm them save what could defeat her.
And nothing can defeat her, not with all those she cares about standing beside her.
Above the moors the skies were blue,
the winds throughout the plains were blowing,
when Windracer took to the sky
and left her home, her path unknowing
Her wings were wide as broadest sky
upon her claws gleamed silver steel
Her eyes, they burned as brightest fire
and to the sky she did appeal
She sought a new life far away
Across the sky, across the Sea
she chose to fly to lands unknown
she chose from the Tyrwood to flee
The wind within her spoke without
the sky itself replied in kind
She was carried swift and fleet until
a distant country she did find
The gleam of fire, the glitter of ice
below the rising sun she saw
forests and wastes and storms and calm
both islands fair and mountains raw
And so went she down to the earth
to explore this new world she'd found
And never back went she to Tyrwood
once her paws had touched the ground
Her wings were sore, her mind was dazed
When first she came to the Eleven's land
But she was set upon by foes
and woke, eyes burning like a brand
The fire within her served her well
Her battle claws were stained with red
and she slew every enemy
she stood alone among the dead
She was stronger than they were,
and took this as a sign to heart
she traveled onwards, and she sang
and tore her enemies apart
The land was wild, the land was free
she wandered there beneath the Sun
years passed before she realized that
her years of bloodshed were now done
She knew of a place both fair and free
where none would fight and none would die
a place where one could stay and live
a place where she could freely fly
Fly free of guilt and pain and fly
free of the passage of the years
where she could think of what she'd done
the lives she'd brought to end in tears
Her enemies saw her never more
She simply chose to turn and go
She fled to the home of the winds of the world
And whither then? they did not know.
She came at last and landed soft
in grass and bamboo glistening
In safe places in the sky
and thus she lay there listening
There played the young of many kin
At peace among the ferns and sky
And here she knew she had to stay
and never did she wonder why
And thus she came to make her home
below the clouds, within the blue
She watches over newfound clan
and to her all their hearts are true
She fights no more; her claws are hid
in her lair's shining golden flood
they reflect no more the light of Sun
they collect no more her enemies' blood
Should the day come where she sees
those that wish her family ill
She would don them once again
she's not forgotten how to kill.
