Rei was born a progenitor - a dragon crafted by the hands of a deity, with the intent of creating a personification of their element untainted by previous generations of dragons. Rei was designed, at her core, as a charge of the Plaguebringer who would nurture future generations of Plague dragons to greater heights. This was prevented, however, by the intervention of three arcane sprites - Aoshu, Kuzlu and Jadu. They stole Rei's egg long before she hatched and raised her in an arcane glade, far from other dragons. When she hatched, Rei had become so corrupted by elemental magic that she was no long a Plague dragon, but an Arcane one.

She was raised by her mothers, the three sprite's that had stolen her, much like any changeling child is. She became wild and elemental as she grew older. She lost her innate mirror desire to hunt, and instead became attuned to arcana and mystery. Unburdened by the usual restrictions of draconic culture, Rei could experience her surroundings without being restricted by moral concerns - rather, she was driven by pure feeling, as elementals typically are.

Then, on a cloudy midwinter day, Rei changed. She felt a pull along the ley lines and it made her restless and, in many cases, unnecessarily violent. While her mothers could not feel the pull themselves, they understood the power that magic could hold over a being of fae origin - it was the reason that they had sought out Rei. It became evident that she would have to leave the glade. Rei left shortly after, her mothers close behind.

They travelled for many seasons, but no matter where Rei went she felt the undeniable notion that something was missing. She didn't know what, as she still wasn't sure what she was seeking out, but it burnt at her insides like an old wound. She became lonely, as she came to realise that she was unable to interact with the few dragons she met in her travels, and she was tired, missing the rich feeling that the magic of the glade gave her. Though she often wanted to turn back she couldn't, for if she ever looked over her shoulder the pull of the ley lines would worsen.

Eventually, Rei found herself travelling through an eerily familiar territory. It was a wasteland, filled with evergrowing tendrils and membranes as far as the eye could see, and a putrid smell hung in the air. It was in this arid plane that she first met Lenna, running desperately away from seemingly nothing. Rei approached her with a joyous roar, eager to attempt talking to a new dragon once again, and Lenna immediately lashed out, assuming that Rei was trying to attack her. After a brief fight and an easy defeat at the hands of Rei, Lenna explained that she was frightened for her life. Having never felt such a fear Rei didn't truly understand her situation, but she couldn't help but allow Lenna to travel with her far from that place.

Together, the two dragons and their elemental entourage travelled to a frozen kingdom in the south, struggling as the temperatures dropped. Though Lenna frequently suffered from diseases and Rei occasionally succumbed to the overpowering pull of the ley lines, the two persevered through the fractured landscape of floes until they began to reach an area of evergreen forests. It was here that they met Cordelia, lost in the woods. Child-like and afraid, Cordelia fell under the wing of Rei, who felt the nurturing instincts of her mothers before her.

The group moved on as one, ever deeper into the frozen woods, seeking out the pull that had been slowly growing in Rei's gut as they moved closer and closer to its source. They travelled between mountains, through narrow passages and cave systems, moving closer to the source of the pull with every step. They were surprised to notice the wreckage of what appeared to be a once well travelled path - lanterns that hadn't been lit in years, pillars that had fallen to pieces, patches of road that had fallen into such disrepair that they were more of a hazard than a help. These became more and more common until, after years of searching, Rei moved through a gateway and into the Villa.

Rei's gut felt fit to tear from the sheer intensity of the pull and then, with all the ceremony of a dying fly, it stopped. Arcane magic swirled wildly around Rei as she rushed forward, filled to bursting with the magical corruption that seeped into the very being of the Villa. Finally, she was where she was destined to be. She hadn't expected to find it hidden amongst the snow and the ice, but she was willing to put that aside.

- - - ▢ Founding the Praevore
Rei did not intentionally begin the Preavore, nor did she purposefully claim the title of Changeling Queen. Rather, it came to be as a result of Rei's misunderstandings of draconic culture. Other dragons would challenge her to fight, be it in a friendly duel or vicious attack, and Rei would handily defeat them - having previously been the defender of the glade, and since having since been empowered by arcane corruption.

Over time, it became commony knowledge within the Villa that Rei was a dangerous individual and an exciting opponent, capable of felling anyone in combat. She became notorious enough that the area's mirror packs set to challenging her, assuming she was vying for territorial control. She wasn't, but she also wasn't about to say no to a good fight.

Eventually, dragons began to follow Rei, idolising her for the power she represented and believing that she acted in the way she did because she was establishing her own pack. Every day new dragons would approach her, desiring a battle and a leader to follow, and every day Rei would find herself with a growing number of dragons that would hunt, feed and nest alongside her.

While the Preavore was never intended, Rei does not regret its growth. It provides her with a means to interact with other dragons, where normally she would find difficulty in doing so. Luckily, Lenna handles most of the logistics of the Preavore - all Rei has to do is keep everyone in line.

You're never quite sure where you stand with Rei. She can hardly look you in the eye, yet her voice crows with the confidence of a dragon a hundred times her size.

"Oh ay, haven't seen you 'round here recently! Ay was beginning to think the frost had gotten to ya, revenant!" she barks in your direction, eyes directed at the air above your head.
