ABOUT.
Cassius is a true adherent of Plague flight philosophy. Born small, he remained so throughout his youth, early military training, and even into adulthood. Rivals quickly learned not to underestimate his ferocity, whether or not they continued to mock him for his stature.

No task was too menial for him when he enlisted in the Legions. Although his superiors had doubts about his ability to survive the grueling physical conditioning, Cassius trained longer and harder than the rest of his yearmates. His efforts landed him a junior officer position as attache to one of the most respected senior commanders. Again, he proved his worth by tackling any task thrown at him as if his life depended on the outcome.

His later field training on the flight territory borders coincided with increased Shade incursions. While most of these conflicts were small, one attack killed the commanding officer of his platoon and left him in charge of thirty wounded soldiers. Cassius distinguished himself by first organizing their defenses, and then cutting a path back to safety at the forward base of operations with those still fit enough to fight.

A long and distinguished career followed, adorned with every decoration for valor that the Legions could bestow.

When he was at last promoted to commander of legions in his own right, the Shade threat had grown monstrous. The Legions suffered catastrophic losses, mitigated only by the intelligence of their field commanders.

In the decisive battle of the final campaign against an army of Shade wraiths threatening to overrun the Wyrmwound, Cassius was critically injured in his attempt to bring down their eldritch leader. He survived his wounds thanks to quick treatment from a Shadeguard physician, but was blinded in his right eye and insensible of the outside world for many weeks.

His mate, Ilene, then living in Ras, had been given the news that he was missing and presumed killed in action. She was making his funeral arrangements when a messenger arrived from Zohran with a letter that immediately reduced her to tears.

Cassius was alive, but still recovering and unable to travel. Ilene made the trip north to join him and the two lived in Zohran for a time.
